This may help. Depending on your version of windows 7 you may be able to run Windows XP as a virtual machine and still user your scanner under XP Mode. You will have to install the XP driver for your scanner on the XP virtual machine running on your Windows 7 computer.
Windows 7 has several built-in tools to help with program compatibility and Windows XP programs should be installed directly on Windows 7.
Windows XP Mode runs many older Windows XP productivity programs
and that are not natively compatible with Windows 7, thus helping
realize cost savings and reduce possible operational downtime by
extending the life of existing software.
HERE is the direct link to instructions on downloading and using XP Mode on Windows 7
Hi bjgestel ! This means there is no more support from HP for your unit under Windows 7 but Windows has a compatible driver included in it's system ( WIA ) . The scanner should run smooth but with some restrictive functions . Normaly , it should run without having installed the HP XP driver/ sofware . If this not your case , there is a workaround after you installed the XP driver and made sure installation was successfull . The scanner will need to run with a third party application . Download FreeKapture from http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html Launch Freekapture , clic on Scan , select WIA-Hewlett-Packard . Your scanner will run . If you choose HP's software, program will hang . Note : no slides or negatives scans possible in WIA mode but the rest works . Good luck ! fanaudi .
Make sure driver XP ( yes , XP ) is correctly installed . Then , go to http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html and install FreeKapture , it's free . Load FreeKapture , clic on Scan and select WIA Hewlett-Packard . Scanner works fine in this mode . If you choose HP PrecisionScan Pro , program will hang . In any case , no slides or negatives scans possible but the rest works .
Hi , Scanjet 5470c does'nt work under W 7 . No drivers available . Here are a few hints : 1° hint : Do not connect scanner . Load XP driver ( yes , XP) , reboot , connect scanner and wait for confirmation of successfull operation . Reboot . Dowload and install FreeKapture ( yes , it's free ) from http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html Open Freekapture , clic on Scan and select WIA-Hewlett-Packard . Scanjet 4470c works fine in this mode but if you choose HP PrecisionScan Pro , program will hang . In any case , no slides or negatives scans possible but the rest works . 2° hint : If you have the W XP install disc , you could install a virtual version of W XP on your HDD ( http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_player/3_0 ) You could also partition your HDD ( http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ) and install W XP on the new one . Regards .
Hi , I succeeded to make my Scanjet 4470c run in WIA mode under W7 32-bit Ultimate . Should also work with W7 64-bit . Make sure driver XP ( yes , XP ) is correctly installed . Then , download and install FreeKapture ( yes , it's free ) from here : http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html Load Freekapture , clic on Scan and select WIA-Hewlett-Packard . Scanner works fine in this mode but if you choose HP PrecisionScan Pro , program will freeze . In any case , no slides or negatives scans possible but the rest works . Regards .
The only ways to get scanner 4470c run under W7 are these 3 options : 1° solution one : make sure driver XP ( yes XP ) is correctly installed . Download and install FreeKapture from http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10711598.html . Load FreeKapture , clic on Scan and select WIA-Hewlertt-Packard . Scanner will work fine in this mode but if you choose PrecisionScan Pro , program will hang . In any case , no slides or negative scans possible but the rest works . 2° solution two : if you have XP install disc , you can install a virtual version of XP on your HDD ( http://www.vmware.com/products/player/ ) 3° solution three : if you still have XP install disc , partition your HDD and install XP on the new one (http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ). Don't wait for HP to produce compatible drivers for this unit , it's useless .Regards . Fanaudi .
Right now, the Konica-Minolta site lists the scanner as discontinued and has no drivers for Windows versions later than XP. The Microsoft Compatibility site lists it as "Information Coming Soon" You can try the generic driver that Windows will try to install (check if you need TWAIN or WIA drivers) or download the current driver and try installing it with XP SP3 compatability mode (right click on the file, select Properties, then the compatability tab.
If those fail, there is another option in Win7 Pro or Ultimate. Download and install the XP mode from Microsoft (2 downloads/installs). Then install the scanner inside the virtual computer running XP that results. You may need to save images to external media to share them between the two computers.
