It is due to your video card program managing your screen display. For a quick fix, try these out:

  1. Close all windows programs.
  2. Hold the CTRL key and press the UP arrow on the "Arrow Keys".
  3. Try also holding the CTRL key and press any of the arrow keys and you should see the display orientation changes.
  4. If the steps 1-3 don't work, try holding the ALT key and press the arrow keys (ALT key instead of CTRL key).
  5. If step 4 still doesn't work, try holding the CTRL key + ALT key + the arrow keys.
These should work since CTRL + arrow key or ALT + arrow key are shortcuts of the video card program that is why you can mess it up sometimes. Just give it a try.

If it's a loose contact, you can fix it by opening the unit and re-fixing the ribbon wire that goes from the main board to the display.

VERTICAL HOLD CONDENSED TO SINGLE LINE IN MIDDLE OF SCREEN.USED TO ROCK IT TO GET FULL SCREEN,BUT THAT NO LONGER WORKS. I KNOW THE CHIP IS LOOSE BUT I DONT KNOW WHERE IT IS SO I CAN REPLACE IT.

Hi,
IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........
ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER
HOPE THIS WILL HELP IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM...

Single white line across screen mean a vertical colapse. So you will need the vertical output and maybe a cap around 100uf@50v.

well most of the modern tv today doesnt have vertical hold anymore. this symptom is caused by a trouble in the IC integrated circuit or the vertical oscillator circuit. let the service guy do the job if u dont know anything about this. good luck!
