Do you know where locations for repair on these kind of instruments are. I ve taken it to long and mcquade and a couple places they say they have no idea what the problem may be but say most likely the sound chip has gone. The keyboard most sounds like the sounds on the keyboard are mixing together switching back and fourth from speaker to speacker the effector. even the basic factory stuff on the keyboard after a system reset and reinstalation sound funny and not normal

Yeah from what ive seen everyone where ive taken it just seems to or claim to know what they are doing and just giving some big prices for repairs. But nobody has yet told what the problem actually is i am located in vancouver bc canada. I really dont know where to take it or if its worth the money for the repair.thank you

If this is not a low power supply problem, you might try circuit cooler to isolate the bad part.

Beyond the power supply I would recommend taking this to a shop for repair ONCE you have tried a factory reset.

Well, I can tell that where you took it are not qualified by a response like "sound chip"... There are MANY chips that are involved in the generation of the sound.

Frankly, I suspect that no service facility will repair this at the component level and will basically do a board swap of the main board in the unit.

Google Korg parts to find where you can call to get idea of what a main board would cost or the possibility of getting a refurb and swapping it out. It will not be inexpensive... probably $400 or so as a pure guess... All the repair thingsd listed are just the dealers which are for the most part useless when it comes to repair... they have to send it out...

The parts things when I used my zip code in the finder showed only one in Vermont and one in Arizona which are probably the only ones in the USA... this forum doesn't tell where the person is so I don't know if you are in the USA or where you are...

You are up the road from us... I am in Renton WA USA.

I think that one of the larger chains in Seattle area MIGHT be able to have your unit repaired. I would contact Guitar center on East Andover in Tukwila which is in the South greater Seattle area. They don't do repairs themselves but have other service outfits do the work and they are big enough to know where to send it.

I repair my own stuff but I don't have access to the schematics for a lot of stuff and without a schematic it is hard to repair stuff. I have a secret site I have found stuff but they don't list the PA800 only a PA80 which just might be the same thing... The problem is most of the stuff uses surface mounted parts and while I have equipment to change some of those, getting replacemnt chips for these special purpose things is near impossible...

Call the Arizona Korg parts place and find what a replacement board would cost... you could probably replace it yourself but there needs to be a bit more troubleshooting first...

I want you to carefully hit notes going up the scale one at a time and look for sudden changes in how the voice sounds. What we are looking for is if POSSIBLY several notes are firing at once. A failure in the scanning matrix could cause this and could be several reasons including cracked circuit board under the keys.

If you know of any activity that led up to the failure let's hear it...

The site in a foreign country ONLY has schematics of a few hard to get things and those not published by the manufacturers. There are no trouble shooting tips.

I would open the unit and carefully use circuit cooler on some of the chips on the main board, looking for any change in the sound. A wild guess might be the digital to analog conversion chip where the sound finally is converted from digital to analog.

When you open the unit, avoid any static discharges by grounding yourself to mounting screws within the unit. Carefully flex the boards by gentle pressure, again looking for any change in sound.

They used to have circuit cooler at Radio Shacks... not sure if they still do. You would need to open the unit so chips are exposed. Then activate a sound and then spray the cooler on a chip and wait about 10 seconds to see if change occurs, then move on to next chip and so on...

Here is one source of the freeze mist:

It is also used in the medical industry for freezing specimens before diagnostic slicing...

Many of these pedal have more than switches. Some use resistors as part of a matrix. The chances of success are only 50-50 unless you rewire the FC01 to be exactly the same as the EC5.
