Yes, but the remote operates on the switch that turns the lights on and off. Lutron has this kind of technology and it is really cool. I have it all over my house and I don't even have to go room by room turning lights off; I just push a button from my bedroom. Along with a single remote that can be used with each switch in your house, you can program a house remote that controls the lights and ambiance of every room.

You should be able to get a universal remote for a ceiling fan at home depot or lowes. Be aware they only sell then WITH the remote and the receiver unit as a package. Be aware, you'll need to check the 4 "dip pin" positions on the receiver unit on the fan itself to program the new remote. Yes, you'll have a spare receiver left in the package unless you choose to install the new one. You may have to remove the fan to do this, as they're usually found in the canopy (where the fan hangs from the box in the ceiling.) Often, the dip switches are just left all "up," however, they could easily have been changed. Some fans are programmable now, and you can test the code without having to check the receiver in the fan (similar to an older TV remote.) If you're using this for a TV, Satellite dish, etc, you'll need to find a compatible one online (not necessarily that model, it's "UNIVERSAL" and follow the instructions that come with it. TV and Ceiling fan remotes operate totally differntly, so if you have a remote that does both tasks, it's fairly new technology, and you'll have to follow instructions for the one you purchase.

Ceiling fan remote will control fan...but not light.

It sounds like the switch is on a parallel circuit to the lights. So it is possible, (If you could find a schematic that would help) that part of the control side of the receiver is dead.

As far as finding parts for ceiling fans, the only places I have found is salvage places, like habitat for humanity stores, and believe it or not yard/garage sales. where you buy the entire fan for cheep to get parts off it. or there are businesses that sell electric / electronic salvage like allectrontics.com but depending on what your looking for they may or may not have it.

One of the major issues I've ran into is lack of part numbers on the actual components, because if you can get an actual part number usually you can web search it and come up with a replacement. Even if it's through digikey (which is way expensive)

Hope this helps

I have a Casablanca "trident"

Hello Duke,

I'm guessing you have a "prime touch" remote control system. I'm not exactly sure whats going on but the W-505 Prime Touch receiver in the fan is the brains of the system. They sell replacement W-505 parts at Fan Man Lighting.

Hope this helps.

Our Hampton Bay 52 in. Ceiling fan lights will not shut off but the remotes will still turn the fan on and off.

More than you will have to replace that remote and receiver with a new one . They sell them at lowes homedepot menards. Its very easy to install the reveiver is mounted in the cover at the ceiling. Make shure you set the little dip switches in the controller and receiver to the same number before installing.Hope this helps.

The remote control will no longer turn off the lights on the fan but will still turn the fan blades on and off. What do you suggest? Would getting a new remote control solve the problem? If so, how do I...

You remote is working fine but for the control on the light switch. If teh fan is switched on and off then the communication is good enough and the remote and the main unit is communicating. Hence remove the remote control and clean the pads of the light button. Dry up if possible and if there is a carbon track, the you can use a carbon pen to make up the lost track, or if the pad has lost the carbon pad then stick one conductive pad so that the circuit is activated. I hope you try this out. Good day

I need a remote

You can buy a remote kit at most electric or home improvement stores. It will come with instructions and needs to have the receiver installed in the canopy of the fan itself. They usually have dimmers for the lights on them, so do not use CFL bulbs in the fixture. Lowes sells one made by Harbor Breeze for about $30-$40. Good luck.

I have 21 ceiling fans in my house.

Three suggestions (maybe not viable solutions):
1. Consider creating ceiling fan "groups". A group is a set of fans that is controlled by one remote.
Group: All (or some) in all vaulted ceilings.
Group: All hallways
Group: Outdoor celing fans
2.
Power OFF ceiling fans at the wall switch that are not used often. Those can have duplicate codes.
3.
If the remote controls are iR (infrared) rather than RF (Radio frequency), then the ceiling fans that are farthest apart or have more solid walls in between, can have the same codes and not be affected by the "wrong" remote.

How to wire a remote control ceiling fan, without using remote.

If you don't want the to use the remote you don't have to, but you don't have enough wires to switch the upper light, the lower light, and the fan. You can, however, switch the upper and lower lights together if that's okay. In order to do that you'd connect the white from the ceiling box to the white (neutral) on the fan, then the green from the ceiling box to any green(ground) wires on the fan, then the black from the ceiling box to the black(motor) from the fan, then the red from the ceiling box to the blue and orange (lights) from the fan. I'm assuming that the black and red in the ceiling box are also in the switch box where the fan/light control switch is going. Those are the ones you'll connect to the controller.
