Close Captions for KF-60WE610 LCD TV

I have a KF-60WE610 LCD TV (for over 5 years). I subscribe to Grande cable. My close captioning works on non-HD channels only. The cable company says that it is TV issue

Hi,

Yes this is a problem but not related to any hardware damage. Before I give you a useful solution I need to know where you live (city, state). And if you use a cable box or connect directly via RF cable. Please provide the required info. Thanks

I live in Corpus Christi, TX. My cable provider is Grande Communications. They have a Motorola HD box between cabble and my TV.

The TV is incidently 60 inch model and I have had it for 5 years. I have no issue in following TV mannual and use Menu button to get the captions on any of the analog channels.

IT is only when I am tuned to HD channel that I am unable to read the captions.

In HD mode there can be interference from the device which sends the signal. You need to set the cable box to display CC (close captions). This can be done as follows:

    1. While TV is on, power cable box OFF, but do not disconnect from power outlet.

    2. Press
and hold "MENU" button on digital terminal (a menu type screen should appear)

    3. Using Up/Down cursors, highlight "Close Caption"

    4. Using Left/Right cursors, put - Close Caption: Enabled

    5. Adjust other cable settings as desired (ANALOG = CC1,
      etc.)

    6. Press
      "OK-select"

    7. When done, press "power" to exit menu

    8. Press
"power" again to turn cable box ON.

    9. If you go through these steps slowly,
you should have a CC in HD mode.
NOTE: Your cable box may display some other screen but you should look for the settings described. This screenshot is from a Comcast cablebox.

Please let me know how it went. Thanks.

This may indeed be just a setting I have given you your user manual link, please use the instructions in the manual, to setup your closed caption correctly.

Surely I know how to use the instructions in Sony's manual; I do get the captions when analog TV is playing.

The same instructions (set-up) does not show the captions when HD TV is playing.

Yes, it is tv issue because tv is not full HD.
Latest tv (on sale now days) are capable to present today's technologies but might not be able to show coming features in next 5-10 years.
Please check Grand cable performance on latest full HD tv and confirm it to get close caption function on HD Channels.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Your TV is in the Closed Captioning Mode. To turn it off simply bring up the on screen menu and scroll down to the part that says closed captioning and turn this function off! With the closed captioning block displayed and the program being viewed is not sending out closed captioning signals the TV will display, No signal on some of the channels or won’t even show those channels. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

I use the TV menu correctly and do get captioning when I am watching analog channels. On the HD broadcast, the TV menu is not able to display anything. Why?

Because the closed captioning is something that is available in analog broadcasts but not necessarily digital broadcasts.

    Thanks

Try identifying which caption is from the TV and which is from the cable box by turning the TV Closed Caption on and off while you have to sets of captioning. This will show you which closed caption never turns off.

To view the captions, all you have to do is turn on the decoder by following these simple steps:
  1. Access your TV menu screen using your remote or by pressing a button on the face of the TV.
  2. Select the closed captions heading. Several different caption options may appear.
  3. Select the "CC1" option.
  4. Exit the menu.
Closed captions should appear within approximately one minute of adjusting this setting. If they do not, review this portion of your television's operating manual or contact the manufacturer of the television set.

Pioneer Purevision PDP-4340HD will not shoe close caption for cable TV

Hi rafaelvh,
If you see the manual.
(go here if you dont have it)
http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000060450.pdf
You can see on page 14 that it talks about the close caption.
"Not all programs offer the Closed Caption option. Please refer to the [CC] symbol to ensure the caption option is available."

It can also be caused if the broadcast source is poor, or the signal is weak.

sometimes the cable box has the feature as well as the tv. If the tv's captions are off, then hunt in the menu of the cable for the closed captions as well.

Close caption works when I select the input for tv, select hdmi input and the close caption option disappears from the menu. I have a shaw cable pvr hd box and need the close caption to work on all...

You need to turn on closed captions through the menu of your PVR. To have it on all the time, turn the box off, press menu on the front of the box, and scroll down to captions.
This should fix the problem

Closed captions will not disappear

Some TV will not display close caption in HD mode. This is why its Grey out in HD mode. If you switch to regular input, i can bet you your close caption will not be Grey out. The problem you are having is your cable box has close caption enable. You must go into the cable box menu and turn caption off. In some box you may have to call your cable provide for assistant.

Closed Captioning on HD channels

We had the exact same problem just yesterday when we bought our Sony 46" Bravia LCD. Nobody, neither Comcast Cable or Sony seemed to really know how to get rid of the closed caption at first and we did have a Motorola box - the box is the problem, not the tv. Here is step-by-step instructions that worked for us. 1. While TV is on, power DCT (Digital Cable Terminal) off 2. Press and hold "menu" button on digital terminal (the screen below will appear) 3. Using Up/Down cursors, highlight "Close Caption" 4. Using Left/Right cursors, put - Close Caption: Disabled 5. Press "ok-select" 6. When done, press "power" to exit menu 7. Press "power" again to turn DCT on If you go through these steps slowly, you should have a caption-free screen!
