I have a customers 2007 Suzuki 650 Burgman on my lift why is it more difficult to roll backwards

Was it running when you tried to back it up? I do NOT have any experience with this bike or this CVT propulsion however, the old SIMPLEX AUTOMATIC used a less sophisticated design.

There is a reinforced belt that slips when stopped or backing up but it always drags to some extent just much less if the motor is NOT running.

Decompression

I doubt there is no compression it is probably the kickstart mechanism. The ratchet on some of the old Hondas tend to give out. It probably isnt as bad as you think.
