Thank you. You last paragraph is accurate.

If you mean that the audio track is clear on play-back when you use the built-in microphone during the recording and not heard if the external microphone, check the external mic for problems. Try it on another recording device. I can't rule out a jack failure without more information.

However when I use my TV as a playback device the sound is heard. So I don't think it is a cable problem.

Microphones are input devices; they don't double as speakers. If you mean that a stand-alone set of speakers do not work, but the internal speakers of the tv do let you hear the audio track from the camera. Then I have a couple of different suggestions: 1) make sure the stand-alone speakers work with other input sources, 2) try a different cable (make sure it is connected properly).

Also how are you connecting to the different devices? The video camera has an HDMI port which will send audio and video to the TV on one cable. If you are using the RCA audio in both cases, then I suspect a problem with the external speakers.

If you mean that the audio track is clear on play-back when you use the built-in microphone during the recording and not heard if the external microphone, check the external mic for problems. Try it on another recording device. I can't rule out a jack failure without more information.

I hope this helps.

You're welcome. To clarify: the TV provides the audio clearly in both cases: recording with the built-in mic or an external mic. When another output device is used, only recordings that were made with the built-in microphone are heard.

I'm not sure what is wrong. What is your second output device? How are you connecting to each output device? (If you are using the same audio ouput jacks, I'm at a loss for a solution.) However if the TV is HDMI and the second device is RCA audio, I'd still check the external microphone on another recording device. (I'd also check the second audio output device and the cables/jacks.)

I wish that I could be of more help.

(A final thought, if the problem is when you use a computer (USB cable) as your output device for editing/viewing, what program are you using. Check your drivers and if your software is compatible with the camera. The Cyberlink package included with the camera should work; others are hit and miss.)

This information comes from the online reference book: Using the Sound Menu

Use the remote to open the TV menu. Select the Sound menu, and the "speakers" decision. From the two choices, "TV Speakers" tells the tv to use its built-in speakers. "Audio System" tells the TV to use an external audio system, and disables the internal speakers. Select "Audio System," and check to see if it works. If it still hasn't recognized that there is an external audio system plugged in, you may need to clean the stereo mini jack (3mm audio jack) with a small wooden toothpick or similar small diameter non-conducting device.

No sound

Sound issues and answersA VERY SHORT LIST OF ISSUES AND ANSWERS-

sound on set or a box muted or turned down?

speakers inside the set (see menu) switchedon or off?

internal/external switch somewhere in or on back of set?

Clearly it could be a audio problem (a model number?) but explore all here thatyou have not already done--make sure theremote set to TV and look for a button on it marked MTS and if there cycle it.

You can also determine if same trouble when you play a DVD. (IF SOUND WORKS VIAREAR INPUTS IT IS A SETTING IN THE TV OR THE BOX.4_3_2012_1_23_06_pm.jpg

The tv is an old philips tv but it plays sound the input on it is ext external im guessing but it plays sound fine but the picture will not come up

Hi

Is this the case when watching tv aswell as using an external device?

i assume this is an LCD TV?
It is a common fault for Philips TV's to have sound but no picture, this is an expensive repaire which should only be done by an experienced tv repair person as the main board will need replacing.
It may be worth weighing up the pro's and cons, it may be more beneficial to purchase a new set.

Thanks you for using Fixya.

Hello, I have a very old mitsubishi color tv, model cs 2657r, which I purchased in the late 1980s. The picture is still great, and I'm trying to connect two small external speakers, though the internal...

Try stripping the speaker wires and exposing it about 1 inch. Then connect the speaker wires in a way that the part that grips or holds the wires touches the metal part and not the insulation. If there's still no sound, Please check the external speakers to see if it's working by using them in another device like a home system or audio player or maybe another tv that has an external speaker port. If not, mostly likely the switches are defective and needs replacement by a qualified technician.

Hope this helps.

I'm using the tv as a monitor for my pc. How come I can't get my headphones for my pc to work when plugged into the back of the tv?

This is because the cable you are using to connect your PC to your TV does not carry a sound signal, only picture. To play sound you will need to connect a pair of external speakers to your PC, or if you want to listen on headphones, connect the headphones to the PC instead of the TV.

Double check your TV settings and ensure that you have your audio set for internal and not external. The external setting would only be used if you have external speakers connected.
