Your mower quits in the middle of mowing and wont restart. The problem is most likely a weak or damaged coil. The hotter the engine gets the worse the spark becomes to the point where it will no longer ignite the fuel. The problem rights itself when the mower cools down.

The good news is: You can buy a replacement coil for a reasonable price off the internet *(Ebay perhaps?) and do the job yourself if you have modest skills with basic hand tools. *(all you need is a socket set and something to set the coil gap....I use a business card myself!)

If the mower is in relatively good shape and you want another 4-5 years of service out of it this isnt a bad way to go. If the unit has other issues like bad wheels, handles or excessive engine wear then a new mower might be a better use of your time and money.

I have a 17 hsp 4 cycle engine..model number OV49OEA... I've replaced the spark plug, fuel pump, and it just will not start...any ideas?

This might sound odd but if you remove all gasoline and I mean all of it, use a syringe or baster if need be, then replace all gas with fresh it may do the trick. Also, you didn't mention if you checked your oil? You should change your oil, and be sure the oil stick level is correct also. Each spring you should change the oil, the spark plug, clean filter and use fresh gasoline, it will make all the diffference. Good luck!

Yard macine model 139cc will not start. Has gas and oil... where is the spark plug located on the lawn mower? I would like to replace it.

The spark plug is at the end of the thick black wire in the middle of the front of the engine or looking at the mower from the front, it is to the left of center. Make sure you set the spark plug gap before installing it new. The gap is probably around .030". They have tools for doing this at the auto parts store. Sometimes and older plug can be cleaned with a stiff wire brush and some solvent and gapped properly and continue to work well.

My murray riding lawn mower startup and after 1 to 2 minutes it shuts off

Check the oil level in the engine. When an engine starts and shuts off in a few minutes the oil level sensor is usually sensing low oil and shutting off the engine. Service the oil to the full mark and try it again. If it still persists disconnect ONE wire fromt the oil level sensor and try it yet again. If after disconnecting ONE wire from the oil level sensor the mower no longer does it's early shutting off routine the oil level sensor has failed or is very dirty. You can try cleaning it with gasoline before replacing it. Sometimes this solves the problem. Other times you just have to replace the oil level sensor.

There is the possibility of a seat safety switch problem also.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Mower will not turn over

Are you sure there is no water in gas tank, are you sure you get spark with new plug? component cleaned include carb and its components inside and out? If it turns over and does not stay running maybe first bet, you have water in the gas, second there is some kind of blockage within the carb probably so small you would not believe that it could be a problem.
If you disconnect the hose from the carb and empty some gas into a clear jar of some sort you can see if you have water in the gas. You will see two levels in the jar if contaminated, a yellowish gasoline level and a clear bubbly level which would be be water. Gas separated by something else means your mower will not start! Should be all yellowish in color.

Riding mower will barely move

Sounds like it time for a tuneup. Air filter changed, Spark plugs replace and oil changed, plus sharpen the blades while you are at it.

Empty the tank of the tainted gasoline (Maybe add the right amount of oil and use it for a trimmer, etc), fill tank with fresh gas and clean the spark plug, since it is probably fouled out. You may have to clean the carb with some carb cleaner, and clean your plug a few extra times, but it should be fine. Hope this helps. Good luck.

The primer bulb might be damaged, or the carburator diaphram could have been damaged if carburater cleaner was used.

Yard Machines 22 inch mower, I dumped it on its top over the weekend, bent the blade, replaced it, now wont start, did leak oil out of the air filter, cleaned it out real well still wont start

if you bent the blade most likely you bent the crankshaft too.
Remove the spark plug and pull the rope and remove excess oil from the spark plug hole
check the spark plug for spark if you have none then a flywheel key is sheered a more in depth fix.
If you get it started you may notice a whole lota vibration due to a bent crank shaft or maybe not?
