Intermittent grinding fan noise on T40

Hi-

I think it's the fan... it I get a loud grinding noise, often immediately on start-up. Oddly, I can usually silence it by tilting the thing back & forth. Assuming it is the fan, I need recommendation for a replacement & directions to a site that will show me the disassembly process.

thanks

I got fans on ebay when I added "an" to the url above. The question that remains is do I get a short or a long fan for the T40?

    thanks again

PS I'm not a Yahoo person (nor do I have any camera and//or instant message setup...) though I hope to get there soon. A website with step-by-step instructions would be ideal. Thanks again.

Wait Black Screen? AFTER you changed the fan... hmmm... I think I know what the problem is. Okay solution one; You might of hit a wire or cord in the computer when you changed out the fan. Two: You might have the virus 223, get it fixed and it should be going again! Hoped this helped! :D

My advent notebook has started to make a very loud buzzing noise intermittently, much too loud to be caused by mobile phone interference etc?

If the noise isn't coming from a speaker, you could need to replace the fan on your computer. The bearings for it might be busted, another issue could be the speaker wire isn't fully connected internally, which you could fix by popping off the top power panel area and fastening the speaker wire in it.

I hope this helps, if not I apologize. The question isn't super vague, but it still has holes in it. :) I can to help more if you post more about the issue.

A loud grinding noise comes from the fan area

Check if there are dust debris on the fan, it could create a grinding noise, but if the fan is clean, there could be a mechanical problem with it. Hope this helps

ASUS Lap top computer, 2 months old' makes loud fan type noises at each start up.

Hi

Its normal for a laptop computer or a desktop computer to spin its fans at maximum speed during start up - its part of the power on self test.

If the fan is very loud like on this video the sound is very bad -

that would be a bad fan, constant bad noise. but if your fan only makes noise in start up, its normal.

your warranty should cover the replacement of the fan if its bad.

My laptop is making a loud noise

Hi again.
It sounds to me that the PC is overheating, get a can of compressed air and give short blasts through the air vents and the CPU fan (located underneath the laptop) once your happy that all the dust has been blown out restart the PC and it should be quieter from then on.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

HP Dv8233cl fan grinding

You only need to replace the fan, not the heatsink assembly.
Your computer repairer can do it or you can do it yourself once you identify the size of the fan and buy a matching one. You may have to solder a new connector on the lead.

Hp laptop dv9500 noisy and loud fan ...

The sound you are hearing is probably the fan, This fan has a noisy bearing and will eventually lock up and the fan will stop spinning and therefore the CPU will overheat and shutdown.
The fan needs to be replaced.

My laptop turns on and then it turns right off!!! HELP!

hi there
It seems your laptop computer is not cooled properly which might be beacuse of a broken cpu fan as you mentioned it makes loud noise.
The reason your laptop turns off by itself is because theres a circuitry built on the motherboard which power offs itself if the internal temperature raises, this is a safety feature to prevent your computer getting burnt.
Please avoid using your computer and take it to a shop where you can have it checked for cooling.
hope this answers your question
