Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I'm scanning forty year old slides. Some of them are dense. If there is a light or white object in the photo, it scans with quite a big halo around it. I have a Mac and am using Nikon Scan 4.0.0.0 3020EN. Is there a way I should set the scanner software to avoid or at least tone down this problem? It seems to me that the software is trying to get detail from the dark areas by amping up the amount of light used, and that this then creates the halo around light objects. Perhaps there is a better explanation. But explanations don't really matter. I need a way to avoid having this problem with well over 1000 slides!

Thanks a lot, Mel. I've been using Photoshop ever since it came out in 1989, so am well aware of different ways to fix the problem with it. Each of them, however, is time-consuming. Starting with the right scan would save hours and hours as I have over 1,000 slides to scan.

Well my bet would be for you to get photo shop or corel draw it will let you retouch the photos and also clone some areas that are lost think about it might be a good investment for you if the shots mean a lot to you.

warning : dont get the cheaper versions they lead you on and then you find out you cant convert photos to jpeg. so do your research first

Akai PT5598HDI Rear Screen Projection TV With Blue Shadowing

If the ghosting is like a 3D effect its your convergence ICs , but if its like a blue Halo around objects that usually means your CRT coolant has congealed and will need replacement. The blue is the first tube to congeal for some reason, followed by green. Red seems to be not quite as prone to this. It is a normal occurrence n sets about 4 years old to need the coolant changed.

Black and white photos from many years ago now have a blue-green hue on them when they are scanned. it started after I scanned old slides.

Did you make changes to the scan type when you scanned the slides? It sounds like you have the scanner set to do a negative image as a slide would need.
Check the preferences for the scan type.
The scanning manual is available on Canon's Website.

Arcsoft Photo impressions 6 software

I have the same problem. If I try to scan my colour negative it comes up totally blue. They are not very old negatives either and have been stored in the dark since developing. I can use the Black and White option quite successfully but have given up on achieving colour.

How to scan negatives & slides with the epson RX620

There are holders for the slides and negatives inside the top cover. Remove the white part and take out the holders. Place the slides or negatives in the holders and place on the glass plate. Then you choose the proper menu for copy or scan and follow the directions on the screen. I scanned quite a few slides and had no problem.

White objects (especially text) on a black background produce a white halo effect around the white lettering. When playing a PS3 game I noticed that the blue color appeared black, as though I had no blue...

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

Narrow straight line runs across all scanned images

by shutterup

I solved my problem.
It's pretty personal, but I hope it can help others.
First: I might have created the problem myself because I slightly adapted the slide-mount.
Why?: Some time ago I had some unwilling films the automatic! film-mount wouldn't swallow, so I had to use the manually operated slide mount.
I adapted a slide housing a bit, so it could take and transport film.
To be short: In the end, there was transparent, (but also reflective) material inside the Coolscan V housing, close to the slide.
I removed it.

Second, I turned the scanner 45 degrees, and gave it a calculated whack on the side. (like you did with your tele in the 6ties, but a bit more carefull )

Don't know which one did the trick, or both. I can send a sample.
