Question about Asrock P4VT8+ P4 PT800 Prescott Ready Motherboard (MOTASR19)

1 Answer

Computer does not fire up anymore after CPU exchange.

Asrock Prescott 800 has a P4 2.4Ghz/1M/400Mhz CPU.
Then a 3.0Ghz/1M/533Mhz is installed just to see if it fires up.
Attempting to start up fails.
After re-installing 2.4Ghz/1M/400Mhz CPU, the system does not fire up anymore.
Not even into the Bios screen.
Clearing Cmos, no change.
Reset the PSU by removing the power cord and then press the power button, same result.
There is CPU activity though, the CPU-led flashes when the power button is pressed.
Next, after a second, the led flashes again for several seconds, but still no boot.
Finally after a few resets, the system fires up and start VMware ESXi.
Then when logged in, no PCI network devices are present, so I shutdown the system again and check the network devices.
Then rebooting the system, but the system did not fire up.
Removing the Network cards and other hardware, did not make the system firing up again.

First, check the PSU on another puter if available. If it works, the MB is the most likely culprit.
Check the capcitors (round tower looking things around the MB). If any are bulging or show brown "dirt", the MB needs replacing unless you know how to replace capacitors (Youtube has tutorials if your brave enough).
You may also have a damaged southbridge. Ebay may have replacement chips (replacing is similar to the capacitors).

Upgrading CPU

Probably nothing. If your system works, I would not concern myself greatly with this small detail. The system indicates a 3.4 GHz cpu installed. Your software may misidentify some of the features of your Prescott.

Prescott 800 dual channel d4b d4a cpu cant find

Hi Pipc1,

Please be more specific on what you are looking for. A bracket? There could be 10 different things on a motherboard that you may think are brackets, if your referring to the CPU fan bracket, go to the site that has that fan, or check eBay.

Thanks

CPU compatability

It is not compatible. If your fsb is 533mhz then any replacement cpu would need to be a 533mhz fsb chip. This is unless your motherboard supports different fsb's. You will need to check your manual or the manufacturers website to see what cpu's your system supports. Hope this helps.
