You don't have a belt but a direct drive with a coupling. You also have a brake and clutch. When the clutch shoes wear out you have metal to metal rubbing during spinning. This will make lots of noise. You can replace the parts. Thank you for the solution. Do you believe both items need to be replaced? The washing machine is about 10yrs. old. Are these items worth repairing or is it time to get a new one-- I know it's a personal decision, but what do you think? Do we need to hire someone to replace these parts or is it something we should be able to handle? I have repaired several appliances before in our house.
The repair is not difficult. I would disassemble the part to determine where the wear is. It's not an expensive part and if everything else seems to be working good I would make the repair.
