Question about Dryers
Dryer will run only when Push to Start switch is pressed and held down - dryer stops as soon as pressure on switch button is removed
Dryer won't heat - it dried a load of towels last night but is kaput today Circuit Breakers are OK (resetting breakers did no good)
The symptoms you are having are consistent with a bad centrifugal switch in the motor.
When the motor reaches full speed (about 1/2 second after pushing the button) a switch inside the motor is tripped to hold the motor on and send power to the heat circuit. If this switch is bad the motor will not stay on with the button up and the heat will not come on. To fix this the motor has to be replaced.
A typical motor repair on a dryer runs about $275.00, If you can send me the model number from the tag just inside the door I can give you a better idea of cost.
