How do you delete Apps?

You can do this in 2 ways:

Itunes: Attach iPod, click on ipod, go to App tab and uncheck the app to be synced and it won't sync.

At the iPod: Go to the screen where the App is. Hold your finger on the app icon until they all start shaking. Hit the (X).

If you hit the wrong one hit the [] Home button at the bottom and they will stop. You can also move the apps by holding and then sliding them left or right as well.

Red x of death

The red x means that the hard drive is broken.

The hard drive can be fixed by resetting it by holding the menu and center button, and as soon as you see the apple logo appear on the screen hit it on the side on padded carpet or couch. make sure you hit it on its left side (left in reference to picture above) if it does not work the first time try again except a little harder.

(you are doing this because the arm inside the hard drive that reads the information from the hard drive is stuck in the middle of the drive, and and hitting it on its left side will get it unstuck)

The only thing that you could break normally when you hit the ipod on its side would be the hard drive and because that is not working you have nothing to loose.

I had the same problem...running Windows XP. Contacted an Apple Product Specialist. Here is what we did, successfully:

  1. Before doing anything, I suggest you create a SYSTEM RESTORE point. Then:
  2. Restart computer and get into SAFE MODE. I did so by repeatedly hitting F8;
  3. Once in SAFE MODE hit "enter" twice, when asked to do so;
  4. Go to "start", then "run" REGEDIT. Hit "enter";
  5. Look for: Hkey Local_machine system
  6. Click edit and find $%&'()*+ "find next"
  7. Right click: delete all of $%&'*+
  8. Click "exit" and reboot.
Its kind of scary to get into the registry, but it worked for me. Good luck, Josh.

Red x icon on my ipod

Hey, I had the same problem and did everything I could think of to fix it (apple store, resetting it, draining the charge). Then I started freaking out because I didn't want to spend the money on a new hard drive or a new iPod. So I did a little searching and found this on another forum:

"Some times when you drop your ipod the lens inside skips. (kinda like a record player) reset your ipod by holding the middle and menu button until you hear clicking. then with one hand hold the ipod firmly and hit the side of it onto the PALM of your other hand. Sometimes this jumps the needle back into place but not all the time."

I did this using the palm method, and it didn't work. But then I hit the side of the ipod on the ground (carpet of course) about two or three times. It made a funny noise and then turned on and started working like before. What a relief. Hope this helps.

Ipod nano 2gb

reset it by holding down the hold button and holding down the menu and center button for 5 seconds as is indicated in the quick start manual. also holding Menu+select could do the trick. have you dropped your iPod or hit it pretty hard? This happened to a friend of mine when he threw his backpack on the floor. His iPod was inside the backpack and the jolt of hitting the floor physically damaged the iPod's hard drive. Unfortunately, if your hard drive is damaged, there's only one way to fix it - get it replaced. If your iPod is still under warranty or you purchased extended AppleCare for your iPod, then have Apple replace or repair your iPod. If your iPod is out of warranty, there are several third-party companies that can fix your iPod like iPodMods. Good luck

Ipod nano, hitting eject results in system restart

First, make sure you have installed the software from the iPod CD. in any case, try to reinstall it. Second, Try connecting to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer. Last, Your iPod nano might need to be reset (see page 43 on the user guide). By the way: If you?re using a Mac, you can also eject iPod nano by dragging the iPod nano icon on the desktop to the Trash. If you?re using a Windows PC, you can eject iPod nano by clicking the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray and selecting your iPod nano.
