Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error code C31:23 means that the FWD back tension value is too high due to grease sticking out of the "Gear Assy, Gooseneck", adhering to the band of "TG2, Arm Assy" or "Table Assy, Reel”. First remove all batteries and then shake the camera hard (or alternatively hit the bottom hard with your hand -at your own risk-), this will remove the error. If it still does not then you have to give the camera a couple of hard taps, on the side and base. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

SOURCE: error code c:31:23

Sony is pretty secretive about the :23 code. It can't be found anywhere. However, to service the C:31 code, Sony recommends you do the following:

  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
  3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
  4. Turn on the camcorder.
  5. If the error message appears, service may be required.

SOURCE: Video camera displaying Error code C:31:23

I have been fighting the same problem. I just now picked up the camera and a small rubber roller fell out of the tape door area. I was not sure where it came from but looking closer there are 4 small rods sticking up on the right side inside the area where the tape is located. It looked like this was where the roller went so I placed it on the center rod and replaced the tape. This solved the problem and I am now able to view and recored as before. There most likely is a part that has either fell or broken off or is loose inside the tape area.

According to the symptom and self diagnostic system the problem is in mechanical section (tape loading section) Therefore camera just need mechanical adjustment and will work fine again. This problem aries when the insertion of the cassette is improper or forced insertion.

Battery symbol blinking when put on charging.

It does sound like the battery needs to be replaced, but it also could be an internal charging problem with the camcorder. I would try a new battery first, since it's the easiest and cheapest option
