Yes, the cameras come with almost no internal memory, just enough for a few pictures or a few seconds of video.

Sounds like you may have taken at least one picture on the internal memory. You need to get rid of that for your card to work properly. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions to erase the internal memory. Then, insert your card and it should work.

Greetings - It sounds like you are trying to use the camera's internal memory to shoot video. The camera only has 14 MB of internal memory.
If you want to shoot video or store more than a handful of pictures you need to get yourself an SD memory card and install it as directed in the manual. A two GB card would hold up to 60 minutes of video and can be purchased for about 10 dollars (USD).

On some cameras, once you use the internal memory, you must format it and completely erase it before a regular memory card will work. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions. Then, never use the internal memory again.

Go into the menu and find "copy". It should give you the option to copy the internal memory to a memory card. Then, use the card in a card reader to download the videos.

Internal Memory full; No memory card in; Will not take pictures;

You need to get a memory card and promise to never use the internal memory again....it only causes problems as you have found out. When you get the new card follow this procedure: 1. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions to format the internal memory. 2. Insert the new card and do the format thing again to prepare the new card. Happy photography!

Why does the memory only last for 20 seconds, while recording a video?

You are most likely recording on internal memory only. Get yourself a memory card. There very inexpensive now and they can hold many pictures and videos. Your particular camera takes sd cards. They range from 256mb to 16gb. Here's a link. Click here

This means that the internal memory of the camera is full. Apart from the external memory slot, camera's have this what you call internal memory. It is built-in to the unit itself.

What you want to do is to set the default storage to the external memory instead of the internal once.

On the Menu, navigate to image store and then choose AUTO.

Auto (default)—the camera uses the card if one is in the
camera. If not, the camera uses internal memory.
Internal Memory—the camera uses internal memory,
even if a card is installed.

Also, you would want to set the camera resolution to a lower value to. The higher the pixel rate, the bigger space it eats up in your memory storage.

Seems like its time to flush the contents of the memory card of camcorder to a computer.
There's a limited amount of memory in every memory card. After constant recording, the memory  gets full and the recorded stuff needs to be either deleted or flushed (uploaded to a computer) to make room for newly recorded stuff.

Unless you have a blank memory card, your problem should be solved by the above mentioned idea.
