1 Answer

Unresponsive drive The green light is lit indicating it is on and plugged in. However, the drive is unresponsive and unable to be found or recognized on my computer. There is a clicking when I initially plug the drive in, but nothing happens. When I push the power button, nothing happens. The drive stays on as long as it is plugged in. I have all my work and personal files on this drive.

Please try to plug in another USB port of your computer. (USB 2.0 port)

Then try to find it in the device manager to se it is enabled and working properly. If not, try to add that device manually.

Hope this helps.

If you install its Vista compatible driver, it may solve the problem. Normally, the disk has XP drivers but you need to install vista compatible driver. I am trying to find the driver for you.

    Hi again,

Before trying to install driver I want to ask something.

    - Was that external HD working on the same computer and operating system before?

    Hi again,

Before trying to install driver I want to ask something.

    - Was that external HD working on the same computer and operating system before?

Normally Windows Vista operating system included its drivers. It should recognize it plug and play.

    Try to do followings:

    Turn off computer

Disconnect all cables from the back of the external drive.

Plug the drive's power adapter directly into an electrical wall outlet.

Turn on the computer and let it fully load Windows.

If the external drive has a power button, turn the drive on. (not connected to computer)

Wait a few seconds, and connect the data cable directly to the computer

If your computer continues to inform you that it cannot find a driver, ensure that you are not using a USB/Firewire hub or other device to connect the drive to your computer.

It is also possible that you may have a bad data cable. Replace the data cable to see if that causes the drive to be recognized and the drivers to load.

If the drive is still unrecognized, you may want to connect it to other computers to make sure that the drive is functioning correctly.

A further step in updating the USB or Firewire drivers is to make sure that you have the latest Windows updates and Service Packs.

    Hope this helps.

It was working previously on the same computer with this operating system. I also tried hooking it up to another computer and it was not recognized on that computer either. Thank you for the advice.

Acer Extensa 5620 notebook unable to power on

Have you tried using a different adapter? It might be that the power adapter is defective. If it isnt then you may need to replace your motherboard. And with regards to your hard drive, there are third party technicians who caters to retrieving data from drives. They may try to use that drive to a different computer to retrieve your files.

have you placed the usb cable into another port, if not do so and see if this works.

another thign is to try a new USB cable to see if there is an issue with it. Check the rear of the unit to make sure the usb mini port is not damaged.

When reconnecting it to the computer does the computer recognize the drive and installs it? if so and there is no drive letter, you can right click my computer/computer and click manage. from there you can use the disk managment to set a drive letter. From here you can also check to see if there is a conflict in device manager.

LED light has gone out

Lights up blue when the Drive is powered on. Flashes red when reading or writing data. It was just stuck between color as it does not flash green,red-blue make green. Contact the company and see if it is under warranty, if not see if they will send you a new light, because
if it is not under warranty,it does not matter if you open it.

All that is inside is a hard drive, chip board. The light plugs onto the chip board same as a fan plugs onto a motherboard. I hope this helps you and it is under warranty,or at least they send you a new light if not.

On button

Look at the power indicator. If it is not lit, no power is being supplied to the computer. Check the following:
  1. If you are using on the battery, it may be low and unable to power the computer. Connect the AC adaptor to recharge the battery pack.
  2. Make sure that the AC adaptor is properly plugged into the computer and to the power outlet.
If it is lit, check the following:
  1. Is a non-bootable (non-system) disk in the external USB floppy drive?
  2. Remove or replace it with a system disk and press <Ctrl> + <Alt> +<Del> to restart the system.
The computer's power management system automatically blanks the screen to save power. Press any key to turn the display back on. If pressing a key does not turn the display back on, three things might be the cause:
  1. The brightness level might be too low. Press <Fn> + <→> (increase) to adjust the brightness level.
  2. The display device might be set to an external monitor. Press the display toggle hot key <Fn> + <F5> to toggle the display back to the computer.
  3. If the Sleep indicator is lit, the computer is in Sleep mode. Press and release the power button to resume.
