Question about Mtd Craftsman 4Cycle Mini Tiller

Open Question

Gas line wroughted and broke. replaced, but primer bulb wont work

There is a top and bottom gas line. One on top looks like it is just for air while the one on the bottom had the filer attached and sat on the bottom of the gas tank. After replacing both, i cannot get the primer bulb to fill up, and i am not getting any gas to the carb.

SOURCE: carb pumps air back into fuel supply line

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylight through it.) Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152), to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. You can also use the Den Tek Brush to clean the jet in carb. if it has one. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

Replaced primer bulb and all fuel lines still getting air in lines. ran pretty good for about 10 minutes now will start with choke but dies in a few seconds. Cannot rev. up. cleaned under both plates but...


The primer bulb pulls fuel from bottom of fuel tank,when bulb is full it will return fuel back into tank,the hose entering bulb runs in the tank to bottom with filter on the end,the return hose stops just as it enters the tank maybe 3/4",make sure the hoses entering tank are tight fit or they will pull air in and leak.the carb may also need rebuild/clean,there is a screen inside of carb that may be stopped up which will need to be replaced.(carb kit).

Started reving very fast wont idle ;was the correct fuel mix was cutting on side ie not down


Check your all of fuel lines for cracks / air leaks especially near any fittings. Also check the primer bulb (if installed) for any pin holes. The symptom you describe is either caused by fuel starvation or the introduction of air into the fuel system. Also check inside the gas tank looking at the fuel pick up tube END / strainer for debris. Make sure that the gas cap remains vented. If some one has placed plastic over the fuel tank fill hole and then the gas cap it will perform as you stated. This model also has a mini fuel filter that can be clogged causing fuel starvation.

In DETAIL A
There is a fuel line item A7 and a tank purge device item A6 that is often where the air leak presents itself.
in DETAIL B
The primer bulb item B14 and the purge line B13 are also a major source of air introduction.

Once you get the feul system sealed again by repair of the fuel lines or replacement of the primer bulb you should be back in the wood cutting business again WITHOUT making carb aadjustments.

Troy bilt gas trimmer gas lines broke and now I'm not sure which lines go where.


The gas lines probably broke because of the ethanol-laced gasoline we have to use nowadays. It deteriorates them. If the unit has the external purge/primer bulb, the way mine did, it is not that hard. Just remember...the primer bulb "pulls" fresh fuel from the fuel tank to and thru the carb, thus pushing out any air/old fuel in the metering chamber of the carb back to the fuel tank in the return line...that said..
Fuel tank...2 lines...smaller diameter line goes directly to the carb body. There are probably 2 brass nipples on the carb. This line goes to the one on the body opposite the end of the carb with the vent-hole in the cover. This is the fuel pump end...where fresh gas enters the carb.
The larger line out of the fuel tank connects to the longer nipple on the purge/primer bulb. This is the fuel return line.
The remaining fuel line (larger diameter) goes from the vented-cover (has writing on it) end of the carb to the shorter nipple on the purge/primer bulb. This line carrys air and old fuel OUT of the carb to the bulb where it is then PUSHED back to the fuel tank via the return line...so you have a small diameter supply line to carb...an intermediate larger diameter line from the carb to the bulb and finally the larger diameter return line from the bulb BACK to the fuel tank.
Go to a small engine shop and purchase about a foot each of the 2 different diameter fuel lines needed and install those new "Tygon" fuel lines as your fuel line replacement.

How to replace gas lines on a Weedeater Excaliber Hedge Trimmer


My Bolens Weedeater runs for 3 or 4 seconds and stop but it will run only if I drop some gas in the caburator then stop. Can you help me with this problem?

Replacing broken gaslines... were do they go?


the primer bulb draws gas through the carb 'C' and back to the tank'T' leaving a small amount of fresh gas in the carb.to replace the lines from filter to carb & bulb to tank,you may have to remove handle & split the housing halves to find where lines enter tank.look in tank W/ a flashlight.to replace lines cut new line on an angle,feed a piece of # 14 copper wire through hole from inside tank.slide new line over wire,the wire will help align fuel line with hole.use needle-nose pliers to push line into tank,& to pull it through once you can see it.cut off end of hose you beat up with pliers.push filter on hose to carb.drop it back in tank."T' line is the return.dosn't matter which line is through top or bottom hole.

Fails to stay running / primer bulb does not fill


Double check that the fuel lines are routed properly. Another place to look for a potential problem is where the fuel line comes out of the tank. Make sure the hose is not pinched. The typical fuel line routing is the first line (the one with the fuel filter in the end of it) comes out of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the carburator. The second line comes out of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the primer bulb and the third line goes from top fitting on primer bulb to top fitting on carburator. Replaced gas lines on ryobi 31ccweedeater. my have lines crossed. will not crank.


One fuel line (the one with the fuel filter in the end of it), comes out of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the carburator. The second line comes out of the tank and goes to the bottom fitting on the primer bulb. The third section of fuel line goes from the top fitting on primer bulb to the top fitting on carburator. That should be the correct fuel line routing. Hope this helped and best wishes.

GAS LINE PROBLEM


Hi this is the way it should go: 1 from the filter in the tank to the bottom of the carby,2 from the top of the carby to the inlet on the primer,3 from the outlet on the primer back to the tank as this is the return line nothing goes onto it.

ok If you have a Walbro WT series carb "without" a built on primer bulb here it is. First off if the fuel lines disintegrated you MUST disassemble it and clean it out. The MOST infintesimle speck of gas line trapped, can allow good prime and bad operation. OK? Don't be lazy on this. Just be delicate removing the flaps gasket and diaphram. ZAMA GND-12 Is the replacement Gasket and diaphram kit fot that carb. Use a cleaner, compressed air or blow good thru it. OK Now...Primer bulb, Carb, and Fuel tank, re connects: Smaller Diameter line comes from Gas tank (Connect filter screen to this in tank) to the short Straight brass carb connector. Primer bulb suction goes to the bent carb brass connector. If small line brings fuel "in" this other line sucks it back "Thru the primer bulb" and the blow side of the primer bulb sends it back to the fuel tank! So...Small Line brings fuel "TO/IN" carb thru short brass connect on carb. Other carb connect goes to bulb suction "IN", Then primer bulb "Pressure OUT" goes thru the larger tube "back to fuel tank". Trust me I know how frustrating a simple diagram is to find online fo this set up. And if you have a carb problem on top of the hook up uncertainty you got frustration. Not only was online help hard to find (Mfg...etc NFG at all!) My local repairshop in BBrook NJ could not tell me how!!! and thats no lie! Walbro has a "generic" carb diagram but no "hook up info" specifically. Poulan don't list it either. And these things routinly fall to pcs. all 3 of mine crumpled together on yr. 3 of use.

check the fuek lines for hole and leaks, check the fuel filter and clean if necessary. remove the carbuerator and inspect the gasket; it should be soft and flexible, if it seems hard or brittle replace it. clean the carb with carb cleaner sray (available at any local auto parts store) and compressed air. make sure you get inside the small fuel rail holes. also check the primer bulb for pin holes and proper seating/seal. if that doesn't work have the carb repaired at a service center or replaced.
