Air in the black ink line - HP OfficeJet Pro k550 Printer

Posted by on

  • madtomr Jun 20, 2010

I have a HP Officejet Pro K550. I ran the black ink out and when I put in new black ink I noticed air in the black ink line. The printer is still trying to print.....sometimes thin lines from residue ink. I ran a dianostic page and cleaned the printer heads and even printed a total black page hoping to get the air out of the ink line. No luck. Is there any way to purge the ink line? Everything else works great on this printer. Please help. Thanks!

Inkjets and Officejets has a foam sponge inside. When the cartridge runs out of ink, there is a tendency for the sponge to dry up and go hard. When you don't fill up your cartridge right away, the ink will dry and clog the micro holes at the outlet of the printer head.

Try to clean the print head properly and carefully. Put it back in and try to print. If same problem occur, then you may need to replace the print head of your HP Officejet Pro K550.

Thank you and good luck!

Are you sure that there's air? Well, i have to ask you few more questions so that we can troubleshoot this better and easier. Is the cartridge new or old? Have you ever refilled it?
Please don't take it otherwise, before i know these, it's impossible to provide the solution for you. Hoping to get a quick and positive reply from you.
Awaiting.

I ran the black ink dry....put in a new black ink and it would print, but no black. Opened it up and noticed the ink line had air (gaps) in it. Tried to work the air out by printing all black page, but still gaps in ink line feed. Is there some way to purge this line and get the air out?

I told you, this question has been locked to another expert. We should co-operate with each other. I think you didn't understand when I said that you moved too fast.

Well, if you insist, you can use refill kit to **** out the air inside the cartridge, but it's not 100% sure that the cartridge will be usable since there's must be some internal faulty with it. Or if i were you, i'll use a syringe with a needle to remove the air from the hole where we use to refill the ink in.

But if it's new, why don't you get a replacement? Hp assures that it'll replace any of it's product if any faulty is detected. Sometimes, this problem is with the print head, not the air, when the print head isn't properly fit or is damaged, this happens. Since you've said that the cartridge is new, I don't think there's another problem with it.

If you wish give it a try, but I am afraid. I recommend getting a replacement.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for using FixYa.

do you know anything about the HP OfficeJet K550? The ink and the printheads are two separate things. The ink line comes from the ink cartridge that feds ink to the printhead. That's where the air is................what's up?

Of course, well, it seems we are having difficulty understanding with each other, never mind, i give up.

    Good luck.

occasionally on the 1x0 range there is a valve stem issue that cause air to be allowed into the ink tube system and aslo for the ink to start crystalizing causing blockage , unfortunatly the fix includes a full set of ink tubes and possibly new printheads to complete the calibration

Sometimes the ink does take a while to come from the cartridge to the print head. Performing 1 head cleaning procedure may fix this. But only do this once, anything after is just wasting ink. Also make sure no part of the air tab sticker has blocked the air hole in the cartridge. Have a look at the new one you have to find the hole. Its just under the sticker you take off before installing it into the printer.
I hope this helps Regards GM

you have air in the air line tubes. you can try doing a couple cleaning, wait 24 hrs, and try a couple more cleanings and then do a test print.

you can try doing a ink purge, but it will **** up a lot of ink, but it might be your last resort.

press menu, and then *2864 quickly, then type 76, use the arrows to select black and then press 0.
when all done press 99 to exit.

It may work it may not, its possible you may even need to do it again, however, your inks will be depleted.

MFC Brother printer will not print when Cayan is empty. Why wil it not print in black and white without it? And which ink is Cayan?

Cyan is the blue color ink, and it won't print when any color is empty so that you don't put air bubbles in the ink lines and ruin the printhead.

Canon printing in streaks

first check the nozzle (bottom of cartridge). if u dont see black spots around the nozzle line (many nozzle that form straight line, black long straight line, color, 3 short line), or a view of burnt, u can continue below.

blow the air hole till it drop the ink. then clean it with water. but note, dont wipe the nozzle, let them wet. u must wipe the contact with dry tissue before inserting it back.

otherwise, u must replace ur cartridge :D

Black ink from new cartridge is missing lines

Try doing nozzle cleaning, hope fully this flushes the air bubbles trapped in the cartridges. Or try using this template which sometimes flushes out the inks.

MFC-240c ink erros. says i'm low/out after replacing

Your printer detects ink levels with an optical sensor that shines at the clear plastic in the center of the bottom of the cartridge. Once this area is no longer dark it will tell you to replace the ink. Since you installed full cartridges it could be that the sensor is cracking up. Another possibility is that you could have air in the ink lines that run between your cartridges and the print head. When this happens the printer cannot print the color that has air in the lines. You should be able to look in your printer to see the ink lines and see if there is air in the black one.

Black ink cartidge

If a black cartridge will not print, with no error messages, it is probably th printhead. Clean it with proper cleaning solution. Refilled ones if done yourself or by someone else, can also have air bubbles, Try blowing down refill hole with tissue under the cartridge to stop ink spills. Also, if you press a folder non scented wipe under the cartridge firmly, you should get a solid little black line or impression. This will tell you if the ink is getting down ok. Try reprinting.
