Remove the top of the shredder, blow out the bottom of the lid and look underneath for jammed paper. Clear as much dust as possible away from the paper slot. Unplug and plug back in the device and then make sure that it's secure on top of the bin and not skewed. that's about all you can do.

There have been a huge number of people posting this same issue and most have not had positive results. So I'll prepare you that usually to spite all efforts it just can't be fixed...Either the motor is burned out, the gears stripped, or the fuses (which are usually not really replaceable) have blown out.

There seems to be no power to our shredder.

Beverly, the power supply for shredder is probably bad. If it has a external power supply, take old power supply with you to a electronics shop and have them match it up for you, with a universal power supply.

Black n& DEcker paper shredder CC600 will not turn on

Check if there is power from the outlet. Check the cabling. Then do a check on the shredder to see nothing is blocking the free movement of the "knives " then check if all sensors are engaged. Not closing the shredder 100% ant the not closed sensor will prevent the motor to run. See and here if the paper in sensor is in tact and clicking when putting in paper. Needless to say, you better unplug the shredder when you open it to check.

Install scarper blade toro powerlite mod. 38182

On everyone I have ever seen, there are just three bolts that go through it into the auger housing. There is a notch that the scraper has that fits on to the end of the housing. You can see the drawing for it here - http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=toro_consumer&mn=38182%2C+Powerlite+Snowthrower%2C+2009+%28SN+290000001-290999999%29&dn=3358-429-383366-0008
I just picked one of the models for 38182 cause i think they are likely all the same, but if you want to be sure, use the list here - http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=Toro+Consumer&mn=38182 and choose the one that matches your serial number range. Then select the drawing to see the rotor assembly. Should be pretty easy except sometimes the heads of the bolts to keep the scraper on get wore down if the scraper bar wasn't changed when it should have been.

No power. Seems to be overloaded

Check the Power Ensure that the shredder top is firmly placed in the shredder basket if the unit will not operate. If the top is not in place the feeder will not work and accept any paper. Make sure it is firmly plugged into the wall outlet and that the outlet is active. Rest the Shredder Let the shredder cool down if the shredder has been running continuously for a long time. It may have overheated and needs to be left in the off position for at least 30 minutes to reset. Verify the basket is empty or not too full as that will cause the shredder to deactivate. Clear Paper Jam Rotate the shredder into "Auto" and reverse to loosen any paper jam that is stopping the gears. Pull out any papers that are sticking out from the shredder feeder. If there is no progress then unplug the shredder and remove the shredder top from the bin. Turn it upside down and use tweezers to free any paper that is blocking the gear. Auto Mode Not Working Select the "Auto" option and feed paper into the center of the feeder tray if the shredder is only working in reverse mode. The sensor is located in the middle of the feeder tray and could be blocked by jammed paper. Use an index card to firmly unblock any paper that could be blocking the sensor.

Shredder will not turn off

Unplug the shredder from the power outlet. Remove the paper canister. You will need a can of air to blow all areas both from inside of the shredder around the blade area and outside of the shredder around the blade area. After you complete that part, Check the sensor area to make sure no paper is jammed around it. Plug the shredder back in and turn it on. If that fixes the problem, get a sheet of paper and put some shredder oil on it and put it thru the shredder for lubrication.

My shredder stopped working in the middle of a shred. I have cleaned all shredding from it, but it still refuses to run. Is there a thermo cut off switch, and if so, where?

  • Shut off the shredder. Unplug it and let in cool down for up to one hour. This will work if the shredder has stopped due to excessive use.

  • 2

Check to see if the shredder is jammed. This is the most common cause of shredder problems. Click the power switch to reverse, which should clear a minor jam. If not, set the shredder to auto, and then to reverse again until the jam clears.

  • 3

Clear extremely stubborn paper jams by grabbing the stuck paper and gently pulling it out. If smaller pieces of paper cause the jam, shut off the shredder and unplug it. When it cools down, carefully use a pair of tweezers to remove the paper bits.

  • 4

Determine if the power supply to the shredder is working properly. If the power supply is cold, use an alternative source of electricity for your shredder. If it is warm, there may be a problem with the shredder itself. Call your office machine repair shop or the shredder manufacturer for assistance.

  • 5

Sharpen or oil the blades. Shredder blades need to be oiled on a regular basis to keep your machine in proper working order. Get oil made specifically for shredder blades from an office supply store.
