You are going to have to replace the switch. The switch is not staying open and is closing the circuit not allowing you to continue to send the electrical current to the system. Once this is replaced your unit will work just fine. You can go to your local appliance store with the make, model and serial number and get the part for about 20 dollars, and install it yourself which will have a set of instructions to do the install once you purchase the products

Glad I could be of assistance and sorry for the price discrepancy. It is hard to tell someone the price of something but most people want a price, and in California the price for that item at least where I am is 20 dollars. But I am glad that I could assist you and feel free to ask any further questions.

GE dryer starts but..... stops

What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.
Thanks/Mike

I have a Candy GOU218 when I push the start button it does start the dryer but as soon as I release my finger from the button it stops, It started doing it around a week ago so I had to push and hold

There are push to start circuits used for motors and then there are holding circuits that keep the unit running. This way the dryer stops if the circuit is open due to high temperature or end of the cycle. It seems as if the holding circuit (could be a rotary switch that stays closed while the dryer is running) or a holding circuit relay (stays closed until circuit is broken by the control) has failed.

Dryer will start when start button is pushed, but as soon as you stop pressing the button, the dryer stops

I would open up the control panel unplug the unit, disconnect the wires to the push-to-start-switch and use a paperclip to attach these two connecters. If everything works you know it is the switch that is bad.

Push start button the dryer will tumble, but immediately stops

there is a relay that latches on when you push the start button .. that relay is released by the "door open" switch .. i would suspect that the "door open" switch is bad .. thats usually a button that is pushed in when the door is closed ..
