Question about Thor TH2000 2000 Watt Power Inverter
I am using the inverter to power a boatlift. When I turn on the inverter I am using an extension cord-- only way I can operate. It turns on then shuts off after about 10 seconds. Any reason why? Is there a special extension cord needed?
I guess you have checked that the wattage of the power lift is lower than the rating of the inverter. It will need to be at least 25% less at a guess possibly more as the starting current will be a lot higher than the rated value of the motor.

Tips for a great answer:
May 17, 2018 | Inverter Heating & Cooling
Short Circuit Protection - OPP
AC output of the inverter is shortcircuited
for one second or more,
it will shut down to protect itself.
The meter will flash as shown to
indicate Short Circuit Protect and
an alarm will sound.
To restore normal operation,
disconnect the short circuit and
turn the unit
Off and On again
Current flowing down an unintended path, try a new extension cord
