Green Yellow Red Lights

It can be overheating but it can also occur for no reason whatsoever. I did a little reasearch and found somone that had managed to get his ps3 working by pushing down on the metal shielding in between the power supply and wifi board, I know it sounds stupid but I tried it out on a coustomer's broken ps3 with the same problem and it worked. My guess is that the spot i pushed down on has a thermal resistor underneath with a bad solder connection or somthing. Tthe only problem is to do this you must take apart your ps3. Have either of you ever taken apart a ps3? If not, you either need to take it to a repair shop or call sony and have them fix it.

One of the YLOD threads (go search for it if you want to see the details) states that one of the eBay companies that repairs PS3s has determined that most of the YLOD errors are caused by solder failures due to repeated heating/cooling cycles. The solder cracks and the contact to the chip/component is lost, thus the system shuts down. The fix according to this thread is to re-flow the solder (essentially reconnecting the components). They stated that about 80% of the YLOD problems were resolved by this method. The problem apparently is either on the mobo or in the power supply. I'm not stating that this is gospel truth, but it's what I've read in other threads on this forum and it makes sense.
