Power but no display

Hello,
It could be a hardware or software problem. You need to isolate the problem.
To isolate the problem, restart your computer and tap F8 until you see the options to boot to safe mode. Use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode. Hit enter.
If you can boot to safe mode, then do a system restore inside safe mode to revert the computer config back to a known good date.
If you can't boot to safe mode, then it's for sure a hardware issue and you need to get it serviced by a technician.

Hi kdale809...

Your on the right track for sure, the video on the motherboard is probably faulty.
You have (2) PCI and (1) PCIe slots open on this computer if you have not installed any other graphics or sound cards.
That means that you can use a PCI or a PCIe (express) video card in your Mom's computer.
There are a lot of video cards that will fit your Mom's computer.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Her machine may have a hidden partition on the hard drive that will restore the system to factory condition, without wiping out her data. Read the following carefully (PDF document).

Starts on page 16 of the PDF.

Look at "Standard Recovery" and "Recovery Image" (page 17)

Page 20 has "Starting PC Recovery if the PC is not responding".

Can't get computer out of safe mode

From Windows Safe Mode click Start / Shutdown and restart the computer. This should start the computer automatically back into Normal Mode.
Note: Many users believe that they are still in Safe Mode because the colors or video may not look correct. Unless in the corners of the screen it says "Safe Mode", you are not in Safe Mode.
If you are rebooting the computer and it is rebooting back into Safe Mode (it does say "Safe Mode" in each of the corners), it is likely another problem exists with Windows preventing it from loading into Normal Windows.

Same problem!

I would boot the computer in safe mode and here is the instructions.
Learn how to start up in Safe Mode.
Products Affected Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.3, Mac OS X 10.2, Mac OS X 10.5
To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:
  1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
  2. Press the power button.
  3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
  4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
During startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

while your in safe mode see if you can uninstall the drive software and reinstall it

Forgotten password

i think if you start in safe mode (press the power button like you would when you start it normally and then start tapping the f 8 button and it should go to a black screen with white writing and you can choose safe mode) and log in as administrator you can go to the control panel and go to user accounts and i think you can erase the password from her account in there somewhere.
let me know if that works
