Question about Roper Washing Machines
When you say will not hold water, do you mean it keeps filling and filling and does not get full or overflow?
If so then you have siphoning going on. Typically it is caused if the drain hose from the machine is either too low or the hose is pushed too far into the house drain pipe.
Look behind the washer, the largest hose of the 3 back there is the drain hose. This hose should 'rise' up to at least the height of the washer tub before going down, what I mean by that is if the hose is just laying down or going to a drain that is lower than the tub, the water will siphon out of the tub.
If this drain hose is pushed into a pipe behind the washer it should only go into that pipe about 6", if it is pushed in too far it will also siphon.
