Freezer not cooling properly. Temperature alarm went off. Turned off now.

Look inside freezer on the rear wall to look to see if there is frost buildup. If yes then unplug and manually defrost defrost for about 3 hours if you only open freezer or place hot water in a bucket and place inside freezer and close the door. My freezer door wont open, feels locked on one side. water is leaking underneath

Just answered a similar question about this but with the water leaking in this one, I think the door got wedged open slightly and you now have an excessive ice buildup on the inside of the freezer causing the door to stick from the ice buildup. You may need to pull hard to break loose the ice and when you get the door open clean all excessive ice from around the door seal area. Packages inside may need to be re- arranged so door closed properly.

How to stop ice building up in freezer

Ice buildup is generally caused when you have a leaky door seal. Make sure that the door seal is intact and the door is properly closed. Another cause could be that the tube to the ice maker has detached. Hope this helps

How do I stop frost/ice from building up in freezer (bottom freezer of French Door Stainless Steel bought in Dec 2011)

Check the door gasket carefully for cracks or other leaks. It is crucial to have a good barrier between the moist room air and the super-dry air inside the box that will quickly suck in the ambient humidity and form frost.

It would be difficult to change the sensor and the heater, and if the defrost cycle is running (and you feel some warmth around the bottom of the box when it is cycling) then the sensor and heater assembly are working and do not need to be replaced. The best practice is to remove any frost buildup at regular intervals and often to prevent a thick buildup that is difficult to remove.

It could be one of several problems -

1) Failed compressor relay
2) Failed compressor
3) Failed component in the defrost system
4) Bad door gaskets
5) Failed door light switch

Questions to answer -

1) Was the compressor (large black domed item with three tubes (one stubbed) at the bottom back of the frig.) warm or hot?
2) Was the condenser fan running?
3) Was there thick ice buildup inside the louvers of the back wall of the freezer?
4) Was the fan running inside the freezer?
5) Look up my "Tips and Tricks" article on testing your door gaskets.
6) Open the door slightly and look inside as best you can. Is the light on or off? Continue to open the door until you see the light go on to confirm the light switch is working.
Your response will give us an idea where to look to find the problem.

Everything in the freeze has a thick layer of ice

Typically, this is an indication that the seal on the door needs to be either cleaner or replaced. begin by cleaning it thoroughly, also clean the frame of the door. Then defrost the ice using a blow dryer and dry it. Then over the next few days you will know if it is the seal if the ice forms again.
