When powering up the monitor comes on,then flickers a little, then display goes black.can the e233h monitor be reset?

Probably not. This is most likely either a backlight going out, or an inverter board going bad, or other internal component (costs $100+ to replace by a professional). Not worth it to fix in most cases, unless you have an extended warranty, or a local repair shop with really good rates.

However, you can try another monitor cord (between monitor and computer; not likely to be the problem, but rarely can help). Flat screen (monitors/TVs/laptops) generally last 5+ years with average use, but I've seen them fail within 2 years (especially on laptop computers). In general, if you got 3 to 5 years out of a monitor, you did ok.

PS: If buying a new LCD monitor or TV, look for one that says "LED" on the box. (LCD monitors traditionally had a few fluorescent bulbs inside as "backlights", but newer LCD monitors/TVs have hundreds of tiny LED lights inside, which last longer, use slightly less electricity, and give more even lighting on the screen edges).

Acer monitors bad caps

Your not using the correct ratings on the replacement caps. The replacements neewd to be low ESR, high ripple current and high temp because the switching power supplies put a lot of stress on the power supply parts. The Acer units just stress the caps a little faster than other models. Any other brands that you have repaired with these parts that are not to spec will fail within a few months and could damage the power supply board when they do. Here is a link to more information about getting the correct capacitors for monitor power supply repairs.

The link article shows brands and series that have the correct rating for this use.

Acer x193 monitor went into standby overnight. I have it set not to do this. Now, it has a hissing noise when turned on and it flickers and is dimmer, regardless of the settings.

Hello,

It's actually not in standby, the power supply on the unit has failed. This is a common issue with those monitors. The first thing to check is to see if it's still under warranty. Acer monitors have a 3 year parts & labor warranty from date of purchase. If you can't find your receipt check the label on the back of the unit for mfg date. If it's within 3 years then contact Acer corp. If your monitor is out of warranty then you can open it up to do the repairs. The usual problem with them is the capacitors on the power supply board overheat and bulge causing them to prematurely fail. You can replace the capacitors and the monitor will be just like new but with better parts in the power supply. That model normally uses the Darfon B092-*** 27-D021635 power supply board which is the same board that's in the Viewsonic VX1962 monitor. Here is a link to a repair guide that will show you what goes out and how to replace the parts to get it back running again.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

It depends upon the situation of usage or might the lcd monitor that was replaced somehow crash again. Its must be a brand new one and at least for several months warranty,if ever need a replacement again and it turns into the same scenario, well some components need to be check cause everytime it replaces new lcd,it always crash.might some shortage takes place.

Hello,

This problem usually indicates a failure of the power supply board that runs the video control board. You can fix it but if your unit is only 1.5 years old then its still under warranty, 3 years parts and labor. Go to www.samsung.com and go to the service section to start a warranty claim. It takes about 2 weeks to go out and back to you.

Look for bad caps, repalce them in a set.

If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Samsung products usually have 3 years warranty, so you should find out first if it is still under warranty. This is 2009 model year.
It can be bad power supply section for the backlights inverter board due to bad caps, or bad backlights inverter board, you should check out the caps with domed tops and take some voltage reading first.

Hannspree HF-289H LCD Monitor not displaying anything.

conor455, I am sorry to hear that your lc display has been struck down with the "BLACK screen of DEATH". Most likely the "switch-mode-power-supply/inverter supply" has failed!!! If your monitor is out of warranty then i suggest that you find your way to my fixya profile and read some of the responses I and others have already written about the BLACK screen symptom and what you can do to try and repair it!! YOUR DISPLAY IS SICK. The SMPS is in SHUTDOWN mode trying to save itself from further damage and or catastrophic nonrecoverable failure. eg. sparks, smoke, fire!! Leave your monitor OFF and do a little bit of research of BAD electrolytic filter capacitors and other stuff that causes LCD backlight's to fail to light-up. Conor, when you asked "ANYONE KNOW THE PROBLEM?" all I can say is visit YOUTUBE and search for and view some of the longer vid clips of "lcd monitor disassembly and/or lcd monitor repair to help YOU to make a decision as to the fate of your HF-289H. Bye for now. If this info has been of some use, please rate this response on fixya! 12fixlouie aka louie12fix
