remove the back seat and you should find two covers with wire on them, one is the fuel pump and the other is the floater, its probably stuck due to condensation. pull it out and if its rusty just wipe off the rust or sand it down with a fine grit sandpaper and ensure the floater goes up and down with ease, reinstall half way and check your gauge before putting eveything back and if that don't work you need a new one.
Your problem sounds like a dirty, blocked or faulty gauge sensor which is inside your fuel tank. google search or find a service manual that will tell you how to remove the fuel tank to acess this sensor.
Either there is a short in the fuel sender wiring or the sender in the tank is bad.The actual gauge is rarely bad.Good luck.
Else The float affixed to your fuel pump in your gas tank is stuck.
It tells the dash you ALWAYS have a full tank. You have to drop the tank, PB Blast/WD40 the float, get it to drop down. Finally Your unit in the tank is bad. Pull it out and move it up and down while someone looks at the gauge. If doesn't work, buy a new one. They are not that expensive.
The fuel gage or the fuel sender unit inside fuel tank.
the sender unit is hard to check because is in the fuel tank.
the gage is easier, remove the cluster with the key on connect and disconnect the 2 connectors in the back of the cluster if the gage moves the problem is the sender unit inside the fuel tank.
hi this could be one of a couple of problems , either the needle on the Gage has stuck to the empty side of the Gage try tapping it to see if it will dislodge itself, or the sender unit in the fuel tank is stuck at the bottom , you can however try to see if it will release itself by banging on the bottom of the fuel tank with your hand ( no hammers required), this should dislodge it from where it is, if this does not work, check the wires coming from the top of the tank to see if one of them has come off or is broken....hope this helps
slap the top of the dash while turning key from on to off without starting motor.. hope you don't have 2 tanks it may be full of water . if so don't switch tanks !! run it the one that works . siphon some out of the problem tank into a glass jar to see if you do have water in the tank , remember gas floats so get that hose to the bottom of the tank.. was i help ? leave feedback . thnks Jay
