Hi: To Install the Distributor Correctly, 1st thing to do is Remove your #1 Spark Plug assuming it will turn over have someone Turn the Key Off and On in Short Intervals.Either put a Compression Gauge in the #1 Spark Plug HoleOr the Old Fashion Way Works as well just put your Finger in the #1 Plug Hole.As your Helper Cranks the Engine On -Off On -Off.Not A Continuous Crank. When You Feel Air Pressure or See gauge Come up.TYhats when your Engine is a The compression Stroke. Now you Can Drop the New Distributor in its Hole.NOTE: You'll need a Spark Plug and Timing Diagram to See the Position your Distributor ROTOR Line it up to where the Diagram Shows your #1 Spark Plug Wire Will go in the Distributor Cap.If the Distributor Rotor is Not n That Position Your goning to Get Either Back Firing engine May Not Even Stsrt, To This Is Crucial. After The Know that you have The Distributor Droppped The Right position you'll need to Put Gap your Plugs at the Correct Specs, With All Plugs in Now You'll need to Put New Plug Wires on .And They MUST be in the correct order.Sitting inside your Vehicle #1 Plug is the Front Plug on the Drivers Side Next is #3 plug Next is #5 and Your Back Plug is Number 7,On the other side Passenger Front Plug is #2 next #4 Next is #6 and the Back is #8 Assuming you know have your Distributor Dropped in The Proper Position, Put the #1 Spark Plug Wire on the Front Spark Plug (Drivers Side) The Spark Plug Firing Order in Your Engine is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 Clockwise So the Next hole after you have #1 Plug and Wire on And Distributor In Correct Position on COMPRESSION STOKE, Going Clockwise you next wire will be your #8 Position in The Cap And it wil go to the Back Spark Plug on The Rear Spark Plug on Passenger Side. NOTE: Drivers Side Spark Plugs on the Drivers Side Front to Back are Your Odd Numbers 1-3-5-7 Pasenger Side is Your Even Numbers From The Front is #2-4-6-8 Is The Rear PLug .

1998 5.7 vortec installed in 1984 1 ton will start but not run. Fuel pressure is 50 psi. Wiring is installed on motor but from computer to steering column not so much.

You would need to have everything hooked up like it was in the 1998 engine . All computer powers and grounds and all signals from engine to pcm.

How do I remove and re install the CPI unit and gaskets on a 1998 Chevy Blazer with Vortec V6

You have to reove the upper plenum. that is the part on top of the intake that looks like a dome on top of the lower intake. There is 8 10mm bolts around the outside of the dome part. the disconnect the fuel lines at back of lower intake and remove the cpi unit.

Why does my 1998 gmc jimmy rpm drop so low when its warm causing a miss in the engine

The truck ECM computer controls the idle speed based on a number of engine parameters. Idle drops to a minimum preset level when engine coolant reaches normal operating range and the engine goes into closed loop control. This idle is typically set at around 575 rpm, and cannot be changed without reprogramming the ECM. The miss is not caused by the idle speed - unless the engine is tuned properly and has not lost compression, this idle speed can result in a rough running engine at idle (typical with older 4.3L Vortec engines). Best bet is to get a complete tuneup which will include checking the O2 sensors, catalytic converter and cleaning the IAC valve and throttle body.

Our fuel pump stopped working on our 98 Chevy Blazer V6 4.3L Vortec Engine, so we bought a new one. A couple days later (before replacing the fuel pump) it started up and ran but ran crappy. So we did

what did you do (replace it) if you still have a miss you may need to tune it up / make sure the fuel pump you bought is for the right psi for your blazer

1997 Blazer 4.3 has a DTC P0300 only can be driven after warm up,but still misses most of the time. it passed E check when not missing and idle is smooth. have replaced all ignation parts. the EGR valve...

this code indicates multiple miss fire, which is not just one cylinder doing it.if this motor has a vortec motor in it the problem could be the injectors not operating properly or the lines to the injectors may be leaking into the intake causing a rich condition.it could be the egr valve stuck open just a bit causing a vacume leak and rough running.it could even be a problem with the pickup coil in the distributer or a cracked magnet.the ignition module could also cause the problem.

Po 300 code tune up performed. ( plugs, wires, air,and fuel filter) what could I have missed? Car has 159000 miles 01 Yukon xl

P0300 is multiple cylinder misfire. If your engine is a "vortec" then I would suspect the fuel injection system. The vortec engine uses a "spider leg" injection system and I have found that if a tune up doesn't clear this code, that the injector tips are dirty. In simple terms, the fuel goes into a "block" and is distributed to the cylinders by a series of plastic lines that "clip" into the heads. I have found that oil and crud has a tendancy to collect around these ports and sometimes works it's way in to the passage, clogging the tips. taking the lines out and spraying the tips with carb cleaner has worked every time for me.

1998 Chevrolet 5.7 Vortec Problems.

Most likely the intake gaskets are bad. they will sag in the middle over time and allow a vacuum leak between the head and intake. recommend replacing the gaskets with the steel instead of plastic ones.

97 k1500 5.7 liter vortec misses on cylinders 3 and 5 while idling. about 1500 rpm only cylinder 3 and 4 miss then at 2000 rpm only cylinder 4 and 8 miss. what could cause this?

I have had continuous missing issues on my 1997 Silverado after i had a new engine installed 30,000 miles ago. Today I purchased a new gasket for the EGR Valve and removed it. The mechanic had re-used the old gasket when he replaced the engine and cut corners to save $2.00. I found he had installed the EGR bass-ackwards causing my check engine light to stay on and the engine always to miss. Engine runs GREAT now

I need the torque specs and sequence on a 1998 chevy 350 vortec

Vortecs are a little different that old school small blocks, grab a Haynes or Chiltons, the cross patterns and specs are simply diagramed. Vortec, as any really, start with 25# then 45# and then final torque which I believe is around 70-75# but to be sure verify with the manual. AutoZones, Murry's, Adavance auto all carry the books, Cheap insurance.
