Question about Microwave Ovens

Heard a 'pop' and microwave quit working. We cleaned it and replaced the bulb behind the left side panel. What else can we try? We had a one yr warranty and the microwave went out in 13mos.

Most likely you have a blown high voltage diode.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

The surface lights burned out so I was going to replace these. I took the lens cover off and when to unscrew the bulbs when I heard a "pop" no there isn't any power to the micro wave. What do I do now?

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid with a one year guarantee.

At our Web site, you can get details of our service, plus we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

You should of course replace the fuse, but always work with the oven unplugged.

Yesterday, I went to use the microwave and as I pushed start, I heard a loud pop and saw sparks behind the vent cover. The microwave light and turn table work fine, but it does not heat. Is it repairable?

sounds like your magnetron went out . check how old it is, sometimes the manufacture gives a 5-10 yr warrenty on part if no warranty on unit then it may not be worth fixing depending on how much u spent on it. part roughly 89.99-139.99 labor 85-165.00 depending on who u use and were u live. hope this helps . thanx..

The light bulb burned out in my Magic Chef microwave oven. I took the burned out bulb to Home Depot to buy a replacement. The manager recommended a different bulb that he said would work. I came home and...

It's possible that it is ruined, but the Home Depot guy should NOT have suggested a different bulb anyway--I would say contact the manager of the Home Depot store that you got the bulb from, and tell them what happened. If you can remember the employee's name, they might be able to help you better. This is something they should be able to compensate you for, because it was THEIR recommendation that may have ruined your microwave, therefore THEY are at fault, and should hold responsibility.

Good luck!

It is the control panel. You can actually just replace the circuit board on the control panel and it should fix this.

Maytag MMV4205BA internal fan quits

As promised, here is your solution information:

You can download Maytag owner's manuals, installation instructions, and parts lists here.

You can find the service manual (which may not have a parts list) by selecting Literature by Model on this page and entering your exact model number with suffix. (Also try it without suffix if you have trouble).

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

You need all three of those documents in some cases.

Finally, you can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

At our site, we now have a video available showing how to remove a typical control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Won't heat

Hello,

The Microwave's "Magnetron" is what heats things up. This is true for all Microwave's. The magnetron is normally on the left and sends excited electrons across the interior. Those electrons bounce around inside until their energy is spent. These excited electron 'waves' are slightly larger than the hole openings in the front door glass panel black grid. Usually, when a magnetron goes you would see and hear some popping and witness some arcing inside the interior. However, you may not have been nearby when this happened. Since you heard popping behind the control panel, you probably have electronic failure in the control panel and that failure may have been precipitated by the magnetron or not. In any case, it is very dangerous to disassemble a Microwave and access the magnetron unless you are trained and have been qualified to do this.

With the cost of Microwaves having stabilized and also being quite low compared to 20 years ago, I would take it to a warranty service provider in your area that also sells them, such as Home Depot for example. That way, if it is too costly to repair compared to a replacement cost you can shop for a new one and may even get a discount should you ask them to give you one.

Sorry for the apparent bad news but if you feel this is the answer you're looking for please rate this solution as fixed or helpful. It means a lot to those of us who work for you in the free area instead of for a fee.

You can phone or write this address below for questions regarding your warranty or warranty repairs. Othewise, you can shop online for a replacement at homedepot.com or sears.com
