The symptoms you describe sound like it's running short of fuel as though there is a pinhole in the fuel line leading to the carburetor. If you can see bubbles in the fuel line you have a small leak and that's all it takes to make that happen. Less likely but still potential reason is air leaking past the crankshaft seals leaning out the engine, if the engine has more than 25 hours on it the rings may be shot.
