Many Microwaves do NOT use a thermistor, as such, they do however have thermostat type electronics, what you need to do is get a service manual, this will have a schematic diagram.

Above find a service manual for a generic service manual.

What is error 21 in micro waves

In case you are using a Samsung Microwave, Error 21 or E21 is Thermistor Short error. It is caused when the thermistor sensor, which senses the temperature of the cavity inside does not work properly.

To correct this, unplug the power cord and wait for more than 10 seconds. Plug the power cord
again. If the symptom persists, contact the nearest service centre

My microwave just switches off in 5 seconds. how do i trouble shoot it?

check the thermistor on the side of the magnetron tubes body, its usually held on by 2 small screws,it's about 1/2" round and has 2 wires on tabs coming out of it, remove thermistor & wires and clip on ohm-meter and heat the thermistor with a match and see how fast it clicks and the meter goes to infinite from a short circuit which will when in circuit shut power off to the tube it's a type of temperature safety switch for the magnetron tube and it or the tube are faulty, also carefully check the tubes body after operation and cutout and see how hot tube is,it could be the tube going out,but i think it will be the thermistor in the end because if the tube gets that hot that quick it would blow the units fuse due to excessive current draw

I have power to the plug, but nothing to the unit when it is plug

First unplug the unit.
This can be caused by one of two possible conditions.
You may have blown a fuse inside the unit or the thermistor may have blown. You can check them with a simple ohm meter. You will have to take the covers off to access the parts. The thermistor is located at the air outlet. This thermal resistor (thermistor) is designed to open if heated too hot and shut power to prevent fires. You can see a diagrams at;

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=260464

It's usually the thermistor.
The parts can be purchase at electronics stores like Radio Shack.

Where is the fuse on a Frigidaire GLMV169D

This problem is almost certainly caused by the thermistor failing. The thermistor is located at the
air outlet of the unit. This is a thermal resistor that cuts off the electricity to the unit if it overheats. Sometimes it can fail from age.
Go to;
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/

and enter your unit number. You can even get diagrams in the left-hand corner screen.
Replace with same value thermistor.
Also see if a mini manual in hidden behind the control panel.

I have R-9X58 timer that stopa @ 5min when in convection mode

"Convection cycle runs 4 minutes and 15 seconds then shuts down."

In most cases, this is a bad thermistor, but it may also be loose wiring, or a problem on the control panel.

The thermistor should be on the top of the chassis and it will look like one of the attached drawings.

You will have to remove the outer cover of the oven to get to it.

THERMISTOR TEST

Room Temperature 68°F(20°C) - 86°F(30°C)

Resistance Approx. 350k ohms - 155k ohms

(The higher the room temperature, the lower the resistance, and vice-versa).

If the meter does not indicate above resistance, replace the thermistor.

Also, if the thermistor is caked with grease, or it's rusty, it will need to be replaced.

If it has a broken lead, it cannot be repaired unless you spot weld or braze it, and if you get it too hot, it will be destroyed.

To find the thermistors, you can visit Sharp's Australian support site and click on the "Spareparts Outlets" link under "Frequented Resources".

(If you're not in Australia, please write back and let me know where you are!)

E4 message and what to do to clear it

That may be it. In some cases you can clean them, but if it has become brittle, it may snap. But it's worth a try.

First of all, I'd try a cold reset by unplugging the oven for afew minutes then trying again. If that doesn't clear the error, it's probably the thermistor.

The oven would have to be removed from the wall so the outer wrapper can be removed, then you can remove the sensor and attempt to clean it.A gentle scraping with the toothpick might work, or gently soaking it in hot water. Just be sure it's dry when reinstalled.

If needed, you should be able to order a new thermistor here:
