It's an internal firmware error. Power it off wait 30 seconds and power it on. If error code is still there, you will have to upgrade the firmware. If problem persists..replace the formatter.

79 errors are often fatal. Your only hope is to get it back to READY, then update the firmware before it reverts back to 79 ERROR. The other option is to replace the formatter, but it would be about the same cost to replace the whole machine.

A solution:
  • Unplug
  • Hold down "*" & "enter/ menu buttons"
  • While holding down both buttons, turn power on
  • Wait until something like "initialize" shows up on the display
  • Let go of buttons
  • Wait until display reads "ready"
  • Unplug for 10 seconds, then plug back in

Scroll down the page to locate each code that you mentioned. I suggest calling your fax number from a cell phone to see if the fax line is clean (doesn't have any noise or static other than the "handshake digital tones") If it does have other NOISE....have the phone company check your fax's phone line for troubles. Let me know.

Try to perform a soft reset
1. Press MENU/ENTER.
2. Simultaneously press then release the * button and the # button to enter the Developer's
menu.
3. Press the < or > button until the message REINIT FFS appears on the second line of the
control-panel display.
4. Press MENU/ENTER.
5. The process takes approximately 2.5 minutes. During that time, the control-panel display
will change several times before returning to Ready.
6. When the Ready message appears on the control-panel display, press CANCEL to exit the
Developer's menu.
