Hmm this could be anywhere, But I would start at the power pack first. If that has a short then it can and will kill your laptop. Only 5v should be running through the motherboard. The PP brings 110 to the plug which is then rectified down to 5v so anywhere from the PP to the input plug on the mother board could be causing it to be live.

DC powered fine. AC Power intermittent

in order to find the connection, you will have to open up the tv carefully and follow the power supply in and probably a thin piece of metal will be broken and need to be resoldered back on. The broken piece will most likely be on or around the board.

Be careful when working on this because you could receive an electrical shock especially if you don't know what you are doing.

I would suggest letting the tv discharge overnight by unplugging it.

Please let me know if you need any further help or have any questions.

Thank you and good luck

Tip

Fuse keeps blowing (LCD,Projection,Standard,Flat panel TV.)

A blown fuse is very common on Electronics Appliances like TV's, DVD's, Receiver's etc. Sometimes fuse blew because of power surge, replacing alone with exact volt/ampere cure the problem. It is necessary to understand that blowing of fuse second time around you replaced it means that you have a shorts in the circuit.

Troubleshooting the shorted parts on the power supply section needs an experienced in electronics because you will isolate the shorted parts one-by-one. Since we are working on the power supply section (110v/220v AC) this is fatal and can cause you an electric shocked with a simple mistakes only.

Usually shorts are quite near to the AC power line where you can locate this components :

1. Power Cord - Even a very low of chances for short but still to be checked because this is a part of AC line input. This is due to frequent bending and pulling, internal wire will shorts.

2. VDR (Voltage Dependent Resistor) this serves as a guard for voltage fluctuation or excessive voltage to avoid further damaged to other parts. If there was an over voltage(reach the peak allowable voltage designed by the manufacturer) from the AC line, this parts will vary its resistanceand drive the line to excessive current which causes the fuse from blowing.

3. Posistor (for standard TV) - connected here the degaussing coil.Check it also for shorts.

4. Rectifier Diode - Some unit this is come in bridge type package.

This is very common parts that are prone for shorts. For more info click this link

5. Main filter electrolytic capacitor.

jdvillanueva_13.jpg

6. Voltage Regulator IC/Transistor.
7. H-out Transistor (for standard TV)
8. Flyback Transformer- (for standard TV)

Isolation technique is done to locate the shorted parts. Pull-out the suspected parts one-by-one in the board and test it using the ohmmeter.

Hope that it may help you find the solution on your problem.

Have a nice day!

Getting no display and door is locked

Most likely cause; dead main board.

A technician should check the following to confirm:

1. Check that the AC outlet has 110V
2. Check that 110V is going from the power cord to the AC filter.
3. Check that 110V is exiting the AC filter to the main board.

If all this checks out then it is definitely a bad main board that will need replaced. Hope this helps, please rate my solution.

No lights on panel machine not switching on

Either the AC filter board has gone out or the main board. The diagnosis is best left to a qualified technician at this point. The technician should start by checking that 110V is coming into the AC filter board from the power cord and that 110V is then leaving out of the AC filter board to the main board. This will determine which part needs to be replaced. Hope this helps. Please rate my solution.

Suzuki SE4000SED generator with no output

There was a day and time when generators were simple. There were no capacitors, regulators to control/adjust power to magnet or ground fault outlets. Winding getting hot indicates short, however could be bad capacitors. Rectifiers and capacitors must be removed from circuit to test properly. Here is a simple test that I use to find fault area. I use a small power supply (16v AC 1 amp like doorbell transformer) into the 110v outlet of generator. This should energize the armature magnet and actually produce voltage at commutator with brushes pulled off. You can slowly pull the starter rope to move the armature into a different positon the voltage will vary. If the ac windings are shorted there will be very little or no magnet. There is a seperate 110 v circuit at the 220v outlet to test (there are two 110v windings that make up the 220v outlet, one is also used for the 110v outlet). There is another winding that products voltage for the regulator that powers the magnet thru the brushes but I think that circuit is porbably working because of the heat in the windings. You might even have 110v power at the 220v outlet. As our parents told us over and over, be careful when working with electricity. Enjoy

Ac doesn't work.

The fuse is not in the fuse box. Its a stand alone holder left side by the shock tower in a little black box. Just follow ac power cable.
