Hello. pop off a second one and take it to any good hardware store. These are common items. If the hardware store doesn't have it in stock they can order it in for you. J.

Removing GROMMETS safely!

Nothing worse than flapping sidecovers or loose parts on your motorcycle! Especially if you have ruined the rubber retaining grommet yourself.

Removing RUBBER grommets of any age without undue damage, can be achieved by heating the grommet from both sides (if possible).

Use a heat gun or even a handheld hairdryer with a nozzle, to heat the grommet to a temperature of about 50 degrees celsius or 125 Fahrenhiet or as hot as your fingers can hold comfortably.

Whilst hot, push BOTH edges of flange towards centre of hole until BOTH edges are clear of inner diameter of hole on the part. Push through to the clear side from this edge you have distorted inwards, working around in both directions simutaneously.

To replace them afterwards, submerge in hot water until hot and squeeze together from edges to form an oval. Insert an end into place and then feed each side in simultaneously. A light smear of liquid detergent will facilitate this, but is slippery on the fingers too. No need to use tools, they will detroy them! Cheers.

Replacement of cord for a 3.5 amp 1/2 in. Crafstman drill

that's surprising, as sears usually can solve those can just get num14 grounded wire, to length you need and that will cover the amps you're using for that drill and a bit'll have to re-use the rubber grommets, or improvise one from something perhaps a roll of soft rubber wrap made into a grommet!!!

I have an RSVP stainless steel knock box and need to replace the rubber sleeve and grommets on the bar. Where can I buy these. The shop where I purchased the box does not stock them. Thanks Al

Hi Al:

Ok, here's what the pros do.
Sleeve-- get a 1-2 foot length of reinforced rubber tubing/hose. Measure the diameter of the inner bar, get the right Inside Diameter on the tubing, cut the right length and slip over the bar-- if the fit is tight, you may need a drop of dish soap to slide it. Lasts for years, much better than the old sleeve.

Grommets. Look at an auto supply store for auto wiring grommets. is a good place to start. Buy a dozen of 'em, and replace them when they split :-)
