You need to put the baterry back on if the battery is bad replace it, the charger is for the baterry. a laptop needs a battery to work, the power that is coming out of the charger only charges the battery it isnt going to power on the pc, it is for maintaning the proper voltage in the battery.

Check your laptop's AC adapter. Ensure the laptop's AC adapter is snugly plugged into the port on the back of the . Also, check its connection into either the wall socket or the surge protector, depending on your setup. Make sure the AC adapter is securely in one of these outlets and not loose. Also, if the adapter is plugged directly into the wall, try another outlet. Your existing outlet may be blown.

Check your monitor brightness settings. Sometimes these settings get accidentally turned all the way down, which results in what appears to be a dead laptop battery or malfunctioning power supply, but is really just a simple fix. Your laptop has dedicated brightness keys at the top of the keyboard, directly above the numeric keys. Adjust the brightness settings here.

Look at the battery indicator light if your laptop appears to be out of battery or suffering a power failure. If it is not flashing or indicating a power problem, your laptop's "LCD closed switch" may be malfunctioning. This switch acts as a sensor which normally judges whether your laptop is open or closed. Sometimes this switch gets stuck in the "closed" position, resulting in the laptop believing it is shut and thus the monitor's back-light staying off. This switch is located right beside either the left or right hinge at the bottom of your laptop's display . Tap this switch multiple times with your finger to attempt to free it up and get it out of the closed position.

Consider whether your laptop's battery has completely died and needs to be replaced. Average laptop batteries last for approximately 1000 charges, after which point they either gradual deteriorate and have trouble holding a charge, or simply fail altogether.
Eventually your laptop's battery will have to replaced, and if none of the other troubleshooting steps yielded results this is likely the source of your perceived power supply problems. Flip over your laptop and locate the horizontal outline of the battery, which will be at the top center of the bottom of your computer.

Notice the battery release mechanism on the bottom of your laptop, which should be directly below the horizontal outline of the battery. Slide this release mechanism to the left to disengage the battery and gently pop it out. The laptop's power supply may now be replaced.

try to remove the battery , then press and hold power button for 8 secs. Then insert the power cable instead of battery. Turn it on. If it wont, try to disengage the power cable and insert the battery. If still wont turn on, kindly inform toshiba about this problem and have them fixed immediately. It is either the battery, the cable or the pc unit itself that causes your laptop failure...

Cant operate bios after reformatting the unit

If you cannot operate the BIOS, the best way is to reset the CMOS battery which require a very good technician to tear down the unit. Here are the steps:

    Turn off laptop

    remove cables and battery

Press and hold power button for 5 secs.

Remove screws in the edges of the laptop

Remove Hard drive, Optical Drive and Power supply fan

Press the CMOS battery (circle shaped silver coating) upwards so that it would disengage and put it back in...

Put back the Hard drive, Optical Drive and Power supply fan

Put back screws in the edges of the laptop

    Put in cables and battery

Turn on laptop and the BIOS will be reset successfully...

My hp pavillion was no power, please give an advise.

There could be a problem with the battery. A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
To verify this, unplug your laptop & try to run it on battery only. Watch out how long it will stay on (if at all). If it didn't work on battery alone, or worked but for a very short time, then your battery is defective.

Emachine M622-UK8X won't power up. When plugged in all the panel lights come on, but stay on. power button has no effect. cmos battery good. Does not smell burnt. Any suggestions?

you might try removing the battery pack. and power up the laptop using only the wall connector that came with it. sometimes a bad battery pack is the cause of power up problems.

    Laptop problem

If you want to get the most out of your battery, then try not to use it very much, and if you run your laptop of a direct power source, the remove it completly, and store it somwhere dry, cool and free from dust. If your battery is really bad, then you can improve it's capacity by freezing it! This however could destroy your battery, so only do it if you have to. Details of someone doing this can be found here: http://aphilosopher.wordpress.com/2008/02/23/freezing-laptop-batteries/
Anyway, in answer to your question, if you are using it of mains power only, then yes, take the battery out.
    hope this is helpful,
