Question about Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) Console
The easiest way is to connect it to a wifi network and use the "network update" option. This will download and install it for you.
Outside of that you can download the latest firmware, copy it to the memory stick and execute on the PSP.
The latest firmware also comes on game UMDs (assuming you have a UMD PSP) so you can update to latest that way if you're willing to buy a new PSP game.
Sony's site has a really great walk through to help you out.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
