SOURCE: Communication Error

Try connecting the camera to another computer. Is the camera reading the same error? If not, it's a computer issue.
If the camera is reading the same error, see if there's a way to restore camera back to the factory settings, and try all over again. Good luck :)

SOURCE: communication error when uploading pictures on computer

I had the same problem. My problem was that there were more than 1,000 images stored on the memory card. Once I deleted some of the images from the camera memory card, I was able to download pictures again.

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But as a solution I highly recommend that you instead consider a card reader to download your photos to your computer. They're very inexpensive, much faster downloading photos from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.

You place the camera's card in the reader, plug the reader into the USB port, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For this simplicity, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. Really, you'll save yourself a lot of heartache. Here are some examples from Amazon. Also, don't be fooled by the cost. Some of the most inexpensive ones work just fine. Go by the reviews. Also make sure you get a reader that is stated capable of reading your card (particularly if you have an SDHC card):

Here's another source for card readers in Hong Kong (free international shipping too :-). I got the $1.95 model SKU7230, and it works great. Note the free shipping can take up to three weeks though:

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Windows Photo Gallery.

hi kbailey. Turn on the camera and go to the menu. find the reset function. Reset the camera. This means you are returning it to all of the settings it was at when it was brand new out of the box. Joe
