Stiletto 2 deletes recordings

When I first got my stiletto 2, I was able to record with no issues. Everything worked fine. A few days ago my stiletto 2 only recorded about half of the time duration that I had set up. Then when I recorded yesterday, and went to listen to it today, the recording had completely vanished!!! I don't use radio replays, and my memory is empty (I delete all my recordings after I listen to them). I know I recorded the show yesterday. I'm going to try again today and see what happens.

I have the same issue of recordings being deleted for no apparent reason. Any ideas why?

I'm having the same problem with my stiletto 2. Did you ever figure out how to fix this?

    Thanks!

About once every 2 months my Stilleto will just delete all of my Howard & Bubba Shows. It does not affect any of the music I have recorded...Just Howard and Bubba. It's crazy...I was recording Howard this morning...And checked to make sure that it did not delete the show that I had not finnished from yesterday...It had not, and I was very pleased...But when the new show completed recording and I un-docked the unit, yesterdays show was gone once again. I do not know whether to send the unit back or if this is being done on purpose. I have it set to "Keep All Shows"...And the deletions on my unit are only limited to Howard & Bubba. Somethings seems a little fishy about this......

  • Anonymous Feb 17, 2009

After ever automatic update, all of the recordings in the internal meory are wiped out, the the unit acrs buggy until I erase and reset it. Now however, hald of my dozen recordings are gone, and the rest disappear once I press pause and return later to continue listening.. Annoying as hell.

  • Anonymous Mar 08, 2009

This is my 3rd unit, and they all do the same thing after a few months of recording. I'm going to try to reset and try again.

  • dhutch5050 Mar 22, 2009

Ditto. I have had my Stiletto 2 for a couple years, and every few months (after an auto Sirius downloaded update), the unit starts automatically deleting my Howard 100 recordings. Now it never allows more that 2 programs, and it deletes half-listend to programs as well. Very frustrating that Sirius always acts like it is the first time they have ever heard of the problem, and offers no solution. Obviously I'm not alone.

My first SL2 started deleting all files and giving "file is empty" errors shortly after it was out of warranty.  I couldn't fix it and tech support (when I could understand their broken English) were unhelpful.

I bought a 2nd SL2 just 6 wks ago and now it started doing the same thing.  All files disappear.  When I record, it shows the beating heart symbol.  But after the recording there are no files saved.  At least this one is still under warranty.  It's just a pain.  I called tech support, went through the hassles with poor English, then the person told me I have to call a different number for warranty service.  He gave me a number, but when I called it I got back into the same tech support queue.

If anyone finds a sloution to this "file empty" bug please post!

I'm a relatively new subscriber, only having my stiletto2 for 3 months. It just started "not recording" and "deleting my recordings". In researching, I came to this thread. Since no one really seems to have posted a real solution here, I'll share what I've found elsewhere.

1.) Check to make sure your SL2 has the latest software (ZAP). To find out what version you have, navigate to Settings >> Device >> Device Info. If your software is not up-to-date simply connect your radio to Internet Radio for about an hour and it will be downloaded. You will get a notice on your screen when the update is complete.
2.) Perform a Full Shutdown of your SL2 at least once a month by holding the power button down for 10 seconds. If you do a lot of recordings it's advised to perform a shutdown weekly or more for best results. This will flush the system, clean up and remove old and expired recordings/replays and reduce general screen lag. For some this simple step has eliminated missing recordings all together.
3.) Do not use your SL2 as an archive device and try to avoid using your internal memory over 50% for the time being. If you do a lot of recordings it's also advised to disable Radio Replays.

If 1-2-3 don't work, try 4
4) Set and Erase
4a. go into your Settings Menu>>Device>>Reset & Erase.
4b. As soon as you complete the process (Reset & Erase) and have rebooted, you will need to connect to Wi-Fi again to again download the baseband update. Let it run for at least 30 minutes to ensure that it is able to get the entire update. Then tune to Satellite Radio it SHOULD complete the baseband update.
4c. You should see the Updating SIRIUS message for about 7 minutes. If it's only up for a minute or two, then it may bet hat the update failed again. You can check the Service Info screen to be sure.
4d. If you then shutdown your SL2 (by holding down the power switch for 5 seconds) then turn it back on, it should complete the baseband update process.

I have been doing that procedure for the last year. I have spoken with the techs, have the latest software, and my stiletto 2 still deletes my howard stern shows. Yesterday I cancelled my subscription out of pure frustration. I spent close to 500.00 on my unit and it's accessories, and Sirius doesn't seem to care about my problem. The sales person acted as if she had never heard of this problem before.

The Stiletto 2 I have now has started doing the same thing. The erase problem only recently started, and I've had the unit since early summer. What's most annoying is that this is actually my second Stiletto; I had to exchange the original one at Circuit City (fortunately I bought the extended warranty) because it had started acting up as well. That unit had begun locking up frequently.
I think the Stiletto 2 is just a buggy unit.

I have been a loyal customer of Sirius from the Beginning. But I must say I am fed up. I have spent more than 1,000s of $$$s on units and car kits and home kits. But I have Had it. Customer Service has been NO help at all. All they want is more Money. I have replaces and sent back over 5 Stilletto 2. And they all have the same problem. The Original Stiletto was a much better unit. Then they decided to replace it, they said it was better but do not buy it. It is basically false advertising. It is extremely disappointing when you want to hear your programing. And it is all deleted. I was glad to find this site. But my advise is sell everything and get out of Sirius. This is ****

I noticed the the same issues started shortly after i downloaded the updates from the sirius website. i think i may reset the unit and see if that works. If the unit doesen't wipe the recordings it gives me a file is empty error.

If you’re having this problem while using the FM transmitter try using a different FM Station. I have the same problem. Mine only does this when I am using the FM transmitter. I recently noticed my volume is adjustable on certain FM Stations, and on other FM stations the volume control is limited. I hope this helps.

I'm recieving a strong signal on my stiletto 2 but no sound on the radio. The MP3 player works with headphones and so does internet radio.

You need the firmware upgrade from the Sirius website:

Bug Fixes
· Reduced incidence of “acquiring signal” and “antenna not detected” messages
while the radio is installed in the Stiletto Vehicle dock (SLV2)
· Improved audio quality and distortion reduction
· Reduced incidence of long block recording and Radio Replay corruption
How to Get this Release
Updating over WiFi:
Subscribers may update Stiletto 2 over WiFi by following these steps:
1. Power cycle the Stiletto 2 by holding the power/lock switch down for 5 seconds
and releasing.
2. Turn on the Stiletto 2 and press the HOME button
3. Use the MEDIA DIAL to scroll to Internet Radio
4. Press the SELECT button to connect to Internet Radio
5. Tune to your favorite station and let it play for several hours.
6. Follow prompts on screen to complete the update, then power cycle your radio to
apply the updates.
7. Next go to HomeSettingsDeviceDevice info, if the baseband version is
already 00.14.94 you are done. If not, continue to the next step.
8. Reconnect to Internet Radio and listen for at least 15 minutes.
9. Disconnect, and tune to Satellite Radio. Updating Sirius will be displayed for
approximately 5 minutes.
10. Once the message clears, your update should be complete. Go to the Device
Info screen to verify the update has been successful.
Updating using My Sirius Studio™:
Customers without WiFi access may update using My Sirius Studio™ running on a PC
with an active internet connection:
1. Launch My Sirius Studio™ on your computer. Be sure you are running the latest
version of My Sirius Studio, currently version 1.5.1.
2. Power cycle the Stiletto 2 by holding the power/lock switch down for 5 seconds
and releasing.
3. Turn on the Stiletto 2 and connect it to your computer using the USB cable
supplied with your device
4. In My Sirius Studio, click on the gear icon next to the device or go to File
Device Settings Check for Software Update.
5. Follow the instructions that appear in My Sirius Studio™ to complete the update.
Please Note: During the update, your media library must be re-built. If you have a
large amount of content stored or a microSD™ card installed, the process can last
for as long as 10 minutes. During this time the message “updating media library” or
may be displayed.
6. After disconnecting from your PC it will be necessary to power cycle your Stiletto
and connect to Satellite Radio to refresh your channel list.

My stiletto records for about 18 minutes then stops

Daylight savings time change a few months ago messed up the timer recording schedule - you must now fix it. Daylight savings time changes will always mess up this recorder. You must reset your recording schedule.

For more info on fixing, go to:

2 other remote possibilities:

If no signal is present at the time the recording is scheduled to start, the recording will be skipped.

Make sure you have followed all instructions on pp. 55-58

Sirius Stilleto 100 skipping issue

Usually this is a signal issue and it happens when recording indoors mostly, right? The signal dropps but only for a second or two so when you look at it its fine. you've probably notived it cutting in and out when "live" from time to time. Use your signal meter built in to the device and find the strongest signal location. If that doesnt work or its not the problem, update the software. If that doesnt work try running the recovery software but only as a last resort because you'll lose your recordings.
SIRIUS Device Recovery (SDR) is a software application that helps you recover your Stiletto (SL2, SL100 or SL10) in the event of a complete system failure.
The SIRIUS Device Recovery program retrieves the latest version of software for your Stiletto from the Sirius website. NOTE: Performing device recovery WILL ERASE the entire contents on your Stiletto: all music, Sirius recordings, channel presets and any user preferences. The Stiletto will be reset to its original factory state. You can perform the revovery from the Sirius Studio software that came with your device or http://www.sirius.com/mysiriusstudio

Double check your signal strength during the time of day your recording sounds like classic signal drop. Could also be software issue or memory issue.
