Turn Direct Memory Access (DMA) on or off

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
is usually turned on by default for devices such as CD or DVD drives that support DMA. However, you might need to turn on DMA manually if the device was improperly installed or if a system error occurred.
  1. Click to open Device Manager. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
  3. Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, for each item that has the word Channel as part of its label, right-click the item, and then click Properties.
  4. Click the Advanced Settings tab. Under Device Properties, select or clear the Enable DMA check box, and then click OK.

DMA drive error.

Its a problem with the windows dma seting for drives. In "device manager", open properties for ur drive and your interface like IDE/ATA controller. There, you can check and change DMA Settings.

Allow max DMA. Do not disable DMA.

U can also check DMA setting on BIOS if ur bios supports it.

Dma

DMA is Direct Memory Access : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_memory_access

It should be automatically enabled, but if it is not there will be no damage. DMA simply speeds up access.

Want to know applications of DMA in real time

Good Morning
IT it a little "brige" to some sound aplications or routing signal to Printers or Sound Cards, but not for Network. Not good sometimes for Sound Cards, but you can play sometimes with settings and see what happend, you always can go back the DMA at previuos state, or simple, disable.

Audio and video track are not in sync

I guess that your CDROM Device doesn't have DMA (Direct Memory Access) enabled.

From the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:

To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager

1.

Open Device Manager.

2.

Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.

3.

Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected, select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab.

4.

In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if Available if the current setting is "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already shows "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must toggle the settings. That is:

Change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click OK.

Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to DMA if Available.
