The header says that this is an electric saw which doesn't have a start procedure--just push the button and it runs. Electrics also don't have a clutch because the motor doesn't need to continue running when not cutting like a fueled engine does. Most electrics, however, have a safety device that uncouples the chain drive sprocket from the drive shaft to protect the gearbox. Remove the bar and chain, then look for a broken/disconnected drive link or spring connected with the sprocket. If the shaft itself does not turn, then there is likely problems in the gearbox. Hope this helps!

Homelite chain saw csp 3314 will start if i tip petrol in spark plug home but wont stay running

There could be a problem with either the fuel line going to the carb or the impulse line that's connected from the cylinder base that generates the 'pulsing' action that operates the diaphragm fuel pump. Today's alcohol rich gasoline has a tendency to weaken or even rot the rubber lines causing fuel delivery issues.

If you don't use your saw for extended periods, dump the tank empty then start the engine and run the residual gasoline from the line. This will help extend the life of the fuel lines.

Another possibility could be a blocked fuel filter, but that is remote.

1st add fuel/oil mix to fuel tank , then top off oil tank with bar oil , place saw down on flat surface , press 'ON" button above trigger handle to ON (its marked on case) then pull out blue choke handle till it clicks and stays out , press primer bulb with thumb 8 to 10 times bulb will become harder to press as it fills carb , push chain brake forward (on) ` place left hand on top of saw and right hand on start cord , hold saw down firmly and pull cord vigorsly several times till it sort of starts (sound) , squeeze trigger in and pull cord once more , saw should take off running , chain wont move ,walk to wood pile then disengage the chain brake and cut wood , if saw fails to start after this procedure then there must be a fault in saw , consult a exp small engine dealer for repairs

Have new 450 and is very difficult to start. Lost or didn't get book. How do I start it and re-start it while still warm??

Start procedure is, push the primer as many times as it takes to 3/4 fill the bulb ( you cannot over prime it ) pull the blue choke lever fully out, place the saw on the ground with your right boot through the back handle, crank the engine until it fires once, do not continue to crank the engine with the choke out ( they will not run on choke, only fire ) push the choke fully home, crank the engine until it starts, blip the throttle trigger to bring the saw to idle, warm engine, pull the choke fully out and push in again without cranking engine, this will engage the part throttle, crank the engine until it starts, blip the throttle to bring the engine to idle.

M842 chainsaw wont start when hot

I suspect your warm start procedure is the fault, the manual is not correct IMO. Any choke on a warm engine causes flooding, try this, if no better post back or return it for warranty replacement.

Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on.
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls; no more than 4).
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull).
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on.
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) – Do not pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull).

Blowing out gas at the start. Drained and filled with fresh gas mixture. Cleaned spark plug and srayed carb cleaner in hole. Pull choke pull cord , blowing gas out of carb. Stuck float? Buy carb kit from...

No floats in chainsaw carbs. Severly flooded most common start problem with chainsaws. Read and follow the start procedure in your manual. Don't use choke on flooded engine (may set fast idle, set then turn off)!

Have e series 142 saw, how do you engage the chain after starting and saw is running

I'm not familiar with that particular model, but every chainsaw I've ever used has a safety bar or shield that must be pulled back (toward the operator) to engage the chain drive. It is a handy feature when you have to climb up to cut something: you can leave the engine running with the safety engaged, then pull it back when you're ready to cut.

Chain not engaged when the chainsaw is running and brake is off

If the brake is not engaged the only thing it could be is the clutch, or the bar. If the bar is burnt or bent from the chain failing off then you will have this problem. But this sounds more like a clutch problem
