From Support information I found on the Canon website, the paper feed rollers of your PIXMA iP1900 may need cleaning.

Source:
https://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/content/faq/?itemid=tcm:14-609974

The feed roller cleaning function allows you to ckean the paper feed roller. perform feed roller cleantng when there are paper particles sticking to the paper feed roller and paper is not fed properly.
The procedure for cleaning the feed rollers is as follows:

1.Prepare the printer
Remove all sheets of paper from the rear tray.
2.Open the printer driver setup window
3.Click Roller Cleaning on the Maintenance tab
The confirmation message appears.
4.Execute paper feed roller cleaning
Make sure that the printer is on and click OK.
Paper feed roller cleaning starts.
5.Complete paper feed roller cleaning
After the rollers have stopped, follow the instruction in the message, load three sheets of plain paper into the rear tray, and click OK.
Paper will be ejected and feed roller cleaning will be completed.

Please see this solution from Canon. It is recommended you check your manual for the proper procedure for clearing paper jams. Incorrectly removing jams could damage your printer. Trust the following helps resolve your current issue.

If you do not have a manual it can be downloaded from here:

Issue: More than one sheet of paper feeds while printing

Solution: Clean the paper feed rollers using the MX300 operator panel

sikaku.gif Cleaning the Paper Feed Roller (Roller Cleaning) Clean the paper feed roller if paper is not fed properly. Cleaning the paper feed roller will wear the roller, so perform this only when necessary.

1. Make sure that the machine is turned on, and then remove any paper from the Rear Tray.

2. Clean the paper feed roller.

(1) Press the Menu button repeatedly until MAINTENANCE appears.

(2) Press the l_mark_s.jpg or r_mark_s.jpg button to select ROLLER CLEANING, then press the OK button.

The paper feed roller will rotate as it is cleaned.

3. Repeat step 2 twice.

4. Open the Paper Output Tray.

(1)Put your finger in the rounded indent beside the Paper Output Tray and open it gently.

(2) Open up and set the Output Tray Extension completely by pressing down the hollow on its front side.

5. Make sure that the paper feed roller stops rotating, then load three or more sheets of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in portrait orientation in the Rear Tray.

Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the left.

6. Repeat step 2 three times.

The paper cleans the paper feed roller as it feeds through the machine.

If the problem is not resolved, wipe the paper feed roller (A) located on the right side inside the Rear Tray with a moistened cotton swab or the like. Rotate the roller (A) manually as you clean it. Do not touch the roller with your fingers; rotate it with the cotton swab.

HP C4280 won't grab paper, tries then says out of paper

You need to clean the feed rollers. Open your HP Notification tray and check up some options. It's really intuitive so if you fiddle around a bit, you'll probably find an option to clean the feed rollers.

If not, dampen a cotton cloth and wrap it on a ruler and scrub the feed rollers yourself. Just look into the tray where you put papers and on the back you can find normally one feed roller on the right side. It's not that difficult.

Good luck.,

When printing Glossy paper 260gsm, on my HP 4280, the paper appears to be slipping in the feed roller and the image prints too far down the page. Any ideas ??

Take the back cover off, and you will see the feed rollers in there. Use a soft cloth and some all purpose cleaner and gently clean the rollers, not too much liquid on them, lat dry and clean again for couple or three times. You feed rollers have become soiled and are slipping on your paper. I have three hp printers and this must be done every couple months or so. I think I found these instructions on hp.com if I remember right.
