Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD100 DVD Camcorder
My Sony Handycam DCR-DVD100 won't turn on unless it push the reset button. After resetting the camcorder it works normally until is it turned off for a few minutes. Then I have to push the reset button again to get it to turn on. If I don't push the reset button when I turn it on I get a blue screen on the LCD for a few seconds and then it just powers off by itself.
Sony wants $211 to repair the problem which seem like a lot considering I can buy the new model for just over $300.
Any help would be appreciated.
Sony has a fixed repair cost which includes parts. That is where the $211 comes from. If you have a major problem, you win as the boards inside can easily cost more than that. If you have a minor problem, well...
That being said, there are no other symptoms other than the need for a reset? This sounds like a logic problem. The power-on should be resetting the whole camera anyway. I'll look up this model tonight. As far as the shutdown is concerned, this is normal. If the power-up sequence fails (not performing the reset constitutes failure), the unit shuts down to prevent damage. So at least that part functions correctly.
