Hello, there could be numerous reasons for this, mainly a power supply that has a fualty part or over heated circut, basically something went bad, these circuts are very delicate and they operate at very high temps this cuases circut fualts. just one bad resistor or blown capacitor may cuase this, it seems you may want to start at the power supply, the way i go about repairing these sets is by aquiring a service manual for the particular set then checking that the voltages are proper at the output terminals and check points.
the service manual for your set may be downlaodable, if your not electronically inclined you may want a service tech to check. it if your able to perform these types of checks use a service manual.

Perhaps an easy fix. Remove the back of the flat screen. There will be a main circuit board visible. There will be several capacitors, cylinders with a cross hatch on the silver top. Do any of them look like they have a dimple created by expansion of the internal capacitor material over heating? If you see an expanded top...that's probably your problem. Get your solder gun out and replace that capacitor. You can order a new one off of Amazon. If yours is a 10 volt capacitor, consider replacing it with a 16 volt unit. Generally the electronics companies under design the size of these units. When you replace the capacitor take note of the silver band on the unit and where its placed in the two socket holes....there is a positive and negative hole placement.

"I have LG 37LC2D TV,when I turn the power on remote controlled or manually it immediately powers off. Is this an issue with the on/off switch inside the tv and how can remedy the problem?"

I have an LG as well.
My troublshooing says:
"Check the power control setting. The power supply may be interupted.
Check if the Auto sleep feature is actiated in the Time settings.
Refer to the " Sleep timer".
If there is no signal while the TV is on, the TV will turn off automatically after 15 miutes or so"

It sounds like bad timing...the TV just happened to fail while you were messing with it.

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.

If you aren't tech savvy, this unit needs to go in for repair.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering).

How are the caps and the DC output voltages, unstable DC can cause starnge problems.

LG 42in LCD Television - turning unit off

The amount of standyby power consumtion is minimal. The only way to turn it off completly is to disconnect the power from the TV. This will however increase your start up time when you want to use the TV.
