Question about Computers & Internet

I have a Clie handheld. I have been having trouble synching it to my computer. It comes up with a screen that it cannot make the connection to my computer and to check all connections. I have done so to no avail. I keep getting the same message. Please advise.

Http://www.retrevo.com/support/Sony-PEG-SJ22-PDAs-and-Handhelds-manual/id/287ci152/t/2/ Above is your user manual, I thought that this will be handy. How to troubleshoot Palm™ HotSync® operation issues when using a USB connection to the Palm OS® 4.1 operating systemI have a Clie handheld. - mag-glass_10x10.gif and the Palm™ Desktop 4.0.1 software.

SOLUTION:
Follow this procedure to troubleshoot Palm™ HotSync® operation issues when using a USB connection to the Palm OS® 4.1 operating system and the Palm™ Desktop 4.0.1 software.

IMPORTANT:

Download and install all appropriate handheld updates from the Sony® CLIé® Handheld Support web site at http://www.sony.com/peg/support.
The Palm™ HotSync® operation is only supported when the user has administrator privileges on the computer. Restricted user accounts are not supported.
If a Palm™ HotSync® operation is successful when connected directly via the USB cable, but fails when using the USB cradle, then the issue is with the USB cradle and service may be necessary.

Ensure all previous Palm™ Desktop software versions have been properly uninstalled before the Palm™ Desktop for CLIé® software is installed.
IMPORTANT: To protect the user data when uninstalling previous Palm™ Desktop software, move or copy the user folder to another location.

Ensure the USB cradle or cable is connected directly to the computer.
NOTE: Ensure the handheld is not connected through a USB hub or another USB device.

Ensure the handheld is securely connected to the USB cradle or cable.
On the taskbar in the system tray, click the HotSync® Manager [FIG. 1] icon.
In the HotSync® Manager menu, ensure Local USB is selected.
Perform a Palm™ HotSync® operation.
If the issue still exists, connect the cradle or cable to a different USB port on the computer.
Perform a Palm™ HotSync® operation.
If the issue still exists, perform a soft reset on the handheld.
Perform a Palm™ HotSync® operation.
WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. Performing a hard reset will delete all added programs, updates and records stored on the handheld.

If the issue still exists, perform a hard reset on the handheld.
IMPORTANT: After the hard reset procedure returns the handheld to the factory default configuration, all of the appropriate updates will again need to be downloaded and installed from the Sony® CLIé® Handheld Support web site at http://www.sony.com/peg/support.

Perform a Palm™ HotSync® operation.
If the issue still exists, remove all unknown and conflicting USB devices in Device Manager of the computer operating system.
Perform a Palm™ HotSync® operation.
If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required.

Hi,

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Hard Reset CLIE Sony Series
  1. Connect the CLIE handheld using the AC adapter and take out the stylus pin by twisting the upper part of the stylus.
  2. Push down and hold the power button of the unit and use the stylus to slowly press and release the reset button on the back.
  3. When the Palm screen will appear release the power button.
  4. At the “Erase all data?” prompt, push the upper part of the scroll button on the front of the device to confirm OK. The Sony pda is now reset and you have only to follow the SetUp steps as prompted.

Installing this PDA on Windows Vista Home Premium laptop

you shouldnt need a device driver for your pda to work along side with Vista, as Vista has it's own Windows mobile device centre which should run as soon as you connect your pda to a usb port. If it doesnt run, then open up windows mobile device centre in programmes and check the mobile device settings as to whether usb is set to connect to the centre.
