Watch the governor and see if its stable or if it's the cause of surging and then it can be determined why the governor is adjusting the RPM. Hold the governor still and see if the engine surges then too.

Mike, The same is happening with my Husqvarna YTH2348. I put a complete kit in the carburator including new jets. It will stop surging as long as I hold the linkage. What is causing this problem? Thanks TP.

Change the fuel line with clear tubing from the tank to the carb .... it's either leaking or colasped inside staving the carb of gas

Engine was surging badly, rebuilt carb didn.t help. will bad governor cause this to surge

99% sure it is the carburetor main jet. I have had to soak many carbs over night in professional carb cleaner. NAPA sells an excellent cleaner in a gallon can The governor is doing its job, that's why it's surging. The throttle doesn't regulate the enfing RPM's, the governor does. If it is not getting the right fuel/air mixture the governor will try to compensate by raising the RPM'still it hits the RPM set limit. It will back off and the cycle will keep going hence the surging.. In the future, don't use oxygenated gas and run the engine dry before storage. Hope this helps.

Where are the jets on a lawnboy 10247 push mower that purges when started ?

I need a little more information such as the engine manufacturer and the numbers off the tag on engine and what do you mean it purges do you mean the engine changes speed without you moving the throttle. This could be caused by restricted air cleaner or loose carburetor or either partially clogged carburetor

I am pretty sure this is a 4.5 Hp engine with the carb on top of the tank. Plastic carb 4 or 5 mounting screws mating carb to tank. Remove the air cleaner... and tighten the carb to fuel tank mating screws. It is drawing air between the tank and the carb. This should stop the surging. If is has been a long period that you used the mower with the surging problem the diaphragm between the tank and the carb may be either out of position or damaged. The diaphragm is not expensive. Usually the first time this symptom presents itself you can resolve it by tightening the carb to tank scresw. IF you have the primer bulb carb..mash the rubber of the bulb against the carb body. If the surging stops... the primber bulb has a pin hole in it.

You passed the mower model number and not the engine model number. When we use the 11A number you passed all we get is the base and handle parts. If you need more help I need the model number off the engine just above the spark plug wire on the air shroud.

Thanks for choosing Fixya,
Kelly

If your jeep has an EGR valve, try removing it and giving it a good clean with carb cleaner. A bad EGR valve will cause surging while driving.
hope this helps

On my YTH2148 you take off the air cleaner and then the backing plate for the air cleaner and the carb is right there. If memory serves me there is a drain hole on the bottom of the carb, you can unscrew the drain bolt and the old gas is gone.

I'd guess at a dirty carb. If its been sitting the gas may have gone bad and clogged up the carb. Try spraying some carb cleaner in the mouth of the carb. It's possible that the idle is turned up too high to compensate for clogged ports in the carb. This is a possibility but not a guaranteed solution. Good luck.

Coleman 6875, Does it have an auto idle???

Hi,
If you've got an auto idle function you'll also have a switch somewhere to shut it off, so look for that first.
Engine surging is almost always a problem somewhere in either the air cleaner or the carb. Check the air cleaner, if it's not dirty take the bowl off the carb and look for dirt in the bottom.

Carl
