Re: how do I receive free update re 60 day offer ..
I am sorry I misunderstood your question, to get your free up date u must go to www.mygarmin.com register the GPS, u will need a mini USB cable and an internet connection to do the update, there is special software that interfaces the GPS with the computer, the whole thing is explained at the Garmin site and takes about 30 minutes.

The following is the nuMaps Guarantee on page 8 of the nuvi 205W series quick start manual that would have come enclosed in the packaging of your recently bought nuvi 255W... nuMaps Guarantee To receive one free map update, register your nuvi at http:/my.garmin.com within 60 days of acquiring satellites. For more information, go to www.garmin.com/numaps
come at a cost, 54.95 to get the most current map set or 89.95 for a
lifetime subscription to map updates. The lifetime subscription is the
more economic way to go saving 20$ by the second year. You are eligible for a free update within 60 days of the units purchase, so you could try obtaining that before paying. All your GPS updates & accessories can be obtained at www.gpscity.ca or www.gpscity.com.
This model of Garmin GPS does not offer those features. They will not work on this model as the hardware is not built in. It is not just a software issue., You will need to purchase a later model which offers these features. Sorry.
The best way to ensure that your satnav is up to date is to register it and log into myGarmin on the garmin website. This will show you if there are map updates and if so give you the option to purchase them. Details on how to do this and how to update your operating software are available at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps
Hi Vicki, unless your nuvi was first activated and acquired satellite lock in the last 60 days (unlikely as yours was discontinued a long while ago) then you cannot get free map updates, sorry.
For models activated within the last 60 days Garmin offer a free update to the latest maps if the maps already on the product when it was purchased are an older version. After that, all updats must be paid for.
You simply won't find free map updates legally. Accurate maps cost a fortune to produce and update so nobody gives them away, even the few illegal downloads tend not to work and if they do work are likely to be out of date anyway.
The way that Garmin price their map updates, it's often better to simply buy a new Garmin with the maps pre-installed, although I appreciate that's not the answer you hoped for. If you do buy Garmin updates then you can either go for a one-off update, or for additional cost can buy a lifetime update, but it's limited to the lifetime of the device which is only designed to last three years anyway so may be poor value if you buy the lifetime update and your machine then dies of wear or old age.
Garmin allows you one free update as long as you download it from their website within 60 days of your purchase date. After that they will charge you either $100.00 per year for updates or $200.00 for lifetime updates.
Hello. You can try the nüMaps Guarantee. It will give you free map update for 60 days after registering your unit. Check it out here. Now, you can get map updates from Garmin only as there are no longer free maps except if offered.
WebUpdater is a free application that lets you update your unit software from home. Download it once at the link below, and you can check for and install software updates without using your Internet web browser. Simply run WebUpdater from your computer, and it will do all of the work for you.
