Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a Samsung Plasma 50" TV. I lost the sound first, then it just started clicking trying to start up. It clicks, the indicator lights come on, then it cherps and go off. This repeats itself over and over. I removed the back, but did't notice any blown components. Any thoughts on what the problem may be?

The cerping sound is common when the TV is turned on and off, so that shouldn't be an issue. I've inspected capacitors and resisters, but none seem to be bad. I've replaced the PSB, cost $80. Is there another board or relay or power supply I should be looking at?

There is no picture. When you plug it in (2) lights come on simutaneously, then a 3rd. Then another (4) one comes on and blinks twice, then the TV cherps and goes off.

Blown components are not always obvious.
The clicking is the relay ( starter unit) that sends power from the input transformer and power unit to the video driver boards. of which there are two X and Y sustain boards. The chirping sound is the sound a transistor will make when it it being fed too much voltage. I would suspect that you have more than just 1 board involved here possibly the sustain board and the power unit board. Manufacturer reccommends that all 3boards are changed and matched. So unless you are tech savvy, good with a circuit diagram and have the appropriate tools to set up the hatch pattern for tuning ( special signal generator) II would be passing this over to SAMSUNG.

My experiene with Samsung is one of praise. They do honor warranties and have always been very helpful and reasonably priced for repairs. I even had one TV picked up from my doorstep, ferried at their expense across the country to Interstate, Fixed and returned withing 11 days and given an extended warranty for 3 years on all parts and labour. The Tv that went to be fixed was 3 days out of warranty.. So that should indicate the level of service this crowd offered. Unlike others I have dealt with in the past.

The estimated fix cost of your problem could be anywhere in the $700-800 vicinity and DIY attempts of swapping boards will cost you even more if you don;t set them up right Too many on here havce tried to save money only to burn out replacemnt boards within anotjer week or even straight after turning on. Take the advise, call samsung service support.

If you recently had storms ( lightning spikes) and you have insurance try a fusion claim. But to get paid the repairer has to claim that parts were fused.

Thanks for using FIXYA

Here are the basic items that are associated with your problem

    Blink 2 times
    , Diagnosis: B overcurrent
(OCP). Possible causes: H. OUT (Q8024) is shorted. (D board), +B PWM
(Q8035, 8038) is shorted. (D board) Symptoms of the problem: Power does
not come on, Load on power line is shorted.

However, juswt replacing the power board will not fix it. As said before all 3 boards can and probably are involved and Somy reccommend that all three boards are replaced simultaneously . The reason is straight forward, to ensure all boards are tuned and to prevent one board compromising another.

There is no easy DIY fix for this , you are better off getting professional intervention than trying to board swap, only to have your money wasted because the problem sgifts up the line and blows the replacement board.

The Q8024 is the trannsistor that is chirping.

replace the sustainer boards should correct this problem. New sustainer boards may cause red and green pixilation. If this happen, replace control board and TV is as good as new.

No. Either you have in a 'video' mode (inputs) or it's a defective unit.
Bring it back to the store and let them bare the weight - sorry about your disappointing purchase. Better luck next time around.  :/

Koala babe, narrow the problem. Is there any sign of power presence in the unit. Could be just a power issue. You did not mention any lights indication on your front panel.

Sony FWD50PX2/S 50 in. Plasma Television power problem

It does sound like a power supply problem but that can be misleading because a problem somewhere else in the TV can be "holding down" the power supply. This can usually be determined by using some isolation techniques.
