Fan motor runs backwards

I have a Carrier Infinity heat pump. The dual speed fan motor went out. The dealer came and replaced the motor and it the unit did not work so they replaced the circuit board. The new fan ran backwards. They ordered another fan and replaced it and that one ran backwards. When it runs backwards there is no suction in where the filters are and the unit freezes up.

Make sure the capacitor is connected to the start lead, not the run lead(s). Also some fans come with some wires you can switch to reverse the direction. If your motor has them there will be 4 and the label on the motor will tell you how to connect them. Let me know if you need more assistance or if this helps.

Hi, I have the same problem. I just replaced my motor and it runs backwards. On the wiring dig on the motor it shows the two wires black and yellow as both being line. The black one connected to the relay runs the motor backwards. I didn't think it mattered on the cap but should i reverse them. (Brown and Brown and white) They are in the right plugs on the cap. I tried the yellow wire to the relay and the fuse blew. Any Ideas? thanks.

Carrier infinity 2-stage heat pump, Error 56 - Temp sense out of Range; and frost forming on heat pump coils although outside temp is 60F

That unit is a very complex machine. The temp sensor out of range issue may be as simple as the sensor being unplugged, or the sensor/outdoor control board needs to be replaced. The "range" it states it an ohm value in the sensor, that the board cannot evaluate properly.

What to do with carrier infinity ac fault code 81

"Low capacity thermal lockout"#81. What this tells me is your 1st stage cooling(low capacity) is locked out for 4 he's due to a dirty outdoor coil, weak outdoor fan motor run capacitor, slow outdoor fan motor, overcharged with freon, restricted or short cycling outdoor airflow(overheating), damaged discharge temp switch, faulty outdoor circuit board. That's all the scenarios I can think of for now. Hope this helps!

I have a Klimaire 16 Seer Dual Zone Mini Split Heat Pump AC and the outside unit fan/fan motor have stopped working where can I replace this at? I live near Dallas Tx surely there is something nearby?

You should check the fuses and breakers it might not be something that expensive, it could also be the controller for the outside unit that is bad. Google kllimare dealers and your zipcode.

My goodman cental air system is having problems. First, the blower inside (furnace) keeps running for hrs after the outside condensor shuts down. Now, the condenser blower motor wont operate at full speed....

the cause of your indoor fan running all the time or for long time after your heat pump has stopped heating is the fan delay relay. It has welded its internal contacts together. If you take off the side below the control panel, the fan delay relay is normally mounted on the header where the fan discharges. Good news, the fan delay relay are fairly inexpensive and easily to change.

As far as the condensing fan motor not running at full speed, when it was changed, did the technician install the correct fan motor. Most condensing fan motors are either 875 rpm or 1175 rpm. They are exactly the same size and if the technician did not look closely he could have installed the wrong rpm motor. There is another possibility, he may have used the wrong capacitor. I have seen the condensing fan actually operate backwards at a lower than normal rpm. The fan if properly installed will discharge air upwards.

My fan motor on a carrier 38ycc024310 has been changed two times should i replace the heat pump or is there an electrical problem

Most Carrier units use smaller horsepower motors with less rpm.
If a universal motor was used that may be your problem.
Check the specs listed on the unit and replace with the correct motor.
Also replace the capacitor.

Fan motor on Carrier inside runs backwards

Hi,
Sometimes a motor can start to run backwards... on an indoor fan it is usually because the air inside for some reason started the fan backwards while it was off and then when power is applied it continues to run backwards... once this happens the fan is ruined and it often will not atrt the right way even after the air problem is solved...
You will need to replace the motor and see if you can figure out why there was reversed air flow in your system...

When the unit is in heat mode is the fan on the outside supose to run? Capacitor on outside and inside have been replace fan was running when capacitor was first replaced.

Hi, and the outdoor condenser fan should not be on at all in the heat mode unless this is a heat-pump!! So, I can see that this is a 3-ton Carrier split system and I haven't pulled up any information on it, only if I need to. But if the indoor unit runs on natural gas/propane, this would not be a heat-pump and the outdoor fan would run only in the cooling cycle. So, if it is not gas fired it is a heat-pump, and yes the outdoor unit should be up and running all year around. On a heat-pump you will have what is called a reversing valve in the refrigerant system that directs the flow of freon in the right direction for the season you are in. Most all heat-pumps will have a heat strip package installed in unit for emergency and aux. heat if compressor lets say fails. You're thermostat will have on it a selector switch, you will see on it these labels, Aux., emergency heat, auto/on/off/heat/cool. You will know from what I have just went through with you what you have. Forgive me for such a long explanation as I like my customers to understand more about there units in question. I could have just said yes or no and thanks? Doesn't work like that for me. I hope this has helped you out. One thing, If you determine this is a heat-pump and the fan is not on when in heat, you may have lost this condenser fan motor? You say both run caps. were replaced, and normally when you loose a run cap for a motor they will open internally, leak, buldge ect. So if this is taking place, if you can yourself take a look at the run cap. Also, make sure you have 220 volts to condensing unit. If not, check breaker probably a 30 amp double pole to see if it has tripped. You will have a disconnect box at the unit and inside there will also be 2 fuses. If you see only a pull out square connect, the fuses are still there but in behind the cover. If you have power and can hear the compressor come on but fan does not, I am positive you will have A faulty run cap, or faulty motor. Kill power to unit and try and slide a metal coat hanger down to prop or blade to see if it spins freely. If it is hard to turn bearings are froze up. If the capacitor seems to look ok, and the motor does spin free, It still may have open windings. Do these checks I have asked of you on power to the outdoor unit. If all is good, Stand in front of the unit and have someone turn the stat on for what season you are in. Lower or raise temp a ways above or below room temp. You should her the contactor close and compressor will start along with the condenser motor. If compressor starts and motor does not, then I would say it has failed and or cap again. When a motor is replaced, the run cap must always be replaced to!! Please get back to me and keep me posted. I will wait to hear what has happened. Good Luck.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7

Blown fuse in Air Handler. It should be on the fan board inside the unit. 5 amp auto fuse replaces it and it will be ok. Russ. Happens all the time dont worry about it
