Your dell uses an ATA drive.. DO NOT GET SATA. A compatible drive for your unit is http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822136159

I have a inspirion 6000 it says cant find hard

You may have a bios setting to check, it also may be damage on the connector or on the actual south bridge from over heating. I would load up into the bios and see if your drive is being detected and has the proper settings, try a default bios setting and see if that helps.

Dell inspiron 6000 laptop keyboard - some of the keys will not work after i installed a different hard drive...

This may be due to a an IRQ ( interrupt request) conflict.
2.The hard drive also may not be the correct drive for this PC
3.. check the requirements for this hard drive.
4. check the manufacturer spec. sheet for the hard drives that can be installed in the pc it may need a certain SATA drive.
5. check the PC at the Dell site and see what the laptop comes equipped with and what hard drive are recommended.

I have just rep[laced my hard drive on my laptop (dell inspiron 6000) and have a no boot sector on internal hard drive / no bootable devices on the screen. what do i do next to fix this?

You need to run your installation/restore CD/DVD that came with the Dell. If you do not have them, you can order them from Dell for a nominal amount.

Upgraded hard drive, from 80gb to 250gb. I have had to reload my os twice. it appears that the bios is not recognizing my hd. a friend said that the inspiron 6000 does not do well with a hd bigger then...

I dont think we can use a hard disk of 160gb in an inspiron 6000. and make sure you bought a ATA hard drive and not a SATA drive. For the Western digital try to reinstall XP and install the device drivers before installing application s/w.

Black screen

Try to reinstall XP again, when prompted to partiton, select to do so.
You will lose everything on the hard drive and will need to reinstall all of your programs.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck.

This is a hard drive failure. You will have to replace the hard drive. Go to pricewatch.com they have the best prices for hard drives that I've found.
